Good Tuesday to one and all. Tropical rain producing showers and thunderstorms will continue to rule the roost over the next few days. Some of these will put down a ton of water and create localized flash flooding. The middle and end of the week is getting my attention for the possibility of severe storms.
Those big boomers would then usher in a much cooler air mass for the weekend into early July.
Temps today will hit the mid and upper 80s with scattered storms going up during the afternoon and evening. Some could be strong and all will contain heavy rain and lightning…
The threat for severe weather will increase late Wednesday into Thursday as we have to watch the northwestern sky. That’s when clusters of storms will dive in from the northwest and these may be damaging wind producers. The Storm Prediction Center has parts of the region in the risk area for tomorrow…
These storms will be torrential rain producers that may also pose a flooding risk. The scattered showers and storms will continue through Friday as cooler air slowly moves in. This is a sign of things to come for the weekend and next week as a deep trough becomes established across the eastern part of the country…
That is a VERY anomalous pattern for summer and would give us unsettled weather through the holiday week.
Have a great day and take care.
Thanks, Chris. We actually have some cloud cover here this morning that is keeping the temps down somewhat right now. IT is still humid, but not terribly hot at this time. Wondering if that will keep the storms from firing up as quickly as they seemed to yesterday. In any event, we have not gotten that much rain in the past few days. The storms seem to be dodging us, so a good shower might be a nice thing. Hope the weather next week does not hinder the Fourth of July celebrations many towns are planning. Of course, that is next week, and the way our weather has been behaving, ANYTHING is possible between now and then with the pattern.
Thank, you for all you do here and on the air. You and your KYT weather team are the BEST!!! Have a great Tuesday, everyone!
HUMID in Frankfort, temp 85, but with heat index 96, that’s to muggy for my blood, bring on the cooler weather Chris!
SPC has updated its outlook for tomorrow, and now has the entire state in a slight risk.
The slight risk has even pushed south to include most of Tennessee which was not included before.
But Kentucky is in the bull-eye. Severe straight-line winds and some severe hail are still expected to be the main issues.
Got my eye on a complex of storms in Western Indiana. Looks like it’s turning toward Kentucky on radar. And Chris has this say:
“Many of the short range models take the thunderstorm complex near Indy and turn it southward into Kentucky overnight.”
