Good evening, everyone. It’s a soaker of an evening across the Commonwealth as a significant storm system brings our first true rainfall since December. This is kicking off a very active pattern that takes us through February and into the spring.

The rain out there tonight and early Friday is a general 1″-3″ for just about all of Kentucky…

Locally higher amounts will also be possible, and this may lead to flooding concerns in some areas. The Flood Watch continues across the west and has also been issued across northeastern Kentucky but nothing in between…

Y’all know I don’t like inconsistent messaging from our local NWS offices and that’s one of the ways we confuse the public.

Heavy rain ends early Friday with some sunshine and 60 degree temps surging in for a while into the middle of the day. That may give way to a few gusty showers and strong storms later in the afternoon and evening.

You can see these firing up on the future radar from the HRRR…

Temps drop into the 40s on Saturday then bounce right back into the 60 degree range for Sunday and that likely hangs into early next week. This will give way to a very active pattern with several lows moving through here starting the second half of next week into the following week.

These systems will gradually pull colder air down here, bringing the potential for winter weather.

Here’s the EURO…

The AI version of the EURO doesn’t show precipitation type, but it shows a better chance for winter weather…

Regardless of precipitation types, there’s a lot of it falling over the next few weeks…

I leave you with your heavy rain tracking Kentucky Weather Radars…

Have a great evening and take care.
