Good Saturday, friends. Our weekend is off and running with a refreshing brand of air blowing across the state. This is sending our temps to well below normal readings and that’s a pattern that lasts into the first week of July. The cooler air won’t do much to end our storm chances as rounds of boomers show up from the northwest.
One year ago this weekend, we were entering into one of the hottest periods in Kentucky history. Temps were hitting the low 100’s and we couldn’t buy a drop of rain. My, how times have changed! Highs today into Sunday will stay in the mid and upper 70s for much of the region as northwesterly winds get added to the mix.
This weekend will have a September look and feel to it.
Rounds of showers and thunderstorms will continue to be in the mix. A few of these could be strong and produce locally heavy rainfall. With a soggy ground… let’s keep an eye out for some local high water issues.
The overall pattern over the next few days is one you would love to see in the winter. A deep, active trough across the east with a ridge out to the west. That setup holds through most of the upcoming week…
As the trough works toward the middle part of the nation… moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will stream back in here for the second half of the week into next weekend. That will keep the threat of showers and storms going. The GFS 2 week rain forecast continues to show a lot of water…
If your lawn and garden are suffering this summer… you need to get some help from green thumb professionals. 😉
Make it a great Saturday and take care.

My lawn looks great at this point
Very pleased so far with the summer precip in Boyle County and I hope it continues. Last summer was a bear.
This time last year we also had a derecho blow through the region…especially in the north where I roam. Many folks got the high winds but no rain. No good.
So now I know that my HughesNet connection is lost about 30 seconds before the downpours arrive. That means I can’t pull up the radar to see what’s happening. Oh, the joys of living out in the middle of nowhere.
Looks like a rainy afternoon. We just had waterfalls pouring out of our gutters for about 10 minutes here in Bourbon County. No wind, no lightning, no thunder — no complaints! 🙂
No rain yet in east Frankfort, showers dancing around my yard so far today.
Gorgeous conditions here in Nashville TN, if a bit windy. My fiancée came down from KY and we took advantage of the nice wx considering storms are in the forecast the next few days, but I might have overdone it as I could deal with some sunburn 🙁
It was exactly a year ago today that Louisville hit 105, Bowling Green 110 and Nashville 109 – even if it was a dry heat. What a difference a year makes; in contrast, it was almost chilly this morning!
This summer, it’s the west getting the extreme heat. Death Valley CA currently 123 (but heat index “only” 112).
I don’t think the rain/clouds were as common over Central KY as everyone thought they would be.
Official highs today:
Lexington: 83
Louisville: 84
Frankfort: 81
Bowling Green: 88
Official NWS forecast was for Upper 70’s in the north and low 80’s in the south. Chris said Mid to Upper 70’s for Lexington.
