Good Wednesday everyone. Let me begin by saying a HUGE thanks for all your hard work in giving us reports on the weather in your hometown. It is greatly appreciated and you guys are the reason this is one of the top places for weather information in the state.

We continue to see waves of snow showers and squalls that will make their way across the region today into this evening and these will put down more light accumulations. This will follow up a Tuesday that actually worked out pretty good in terms of the snow forecast. Much of the 2″-4″ forecast area picked up exactly that with the 1″-3″ region doing the same. There will always be some holes in there with lower totals as that is just the nature of the snow forecasting beast.

The squalls today will get a kick in the pants from Lake Michigan. The flow is a good one to see a nice plume of moisture streaking southeastward into much of central and eastern Kentucky. Today’s squalls and snow showers will put down another inch or two for much of these areas with parts of southeastern Kentucky picking up another 2″-4″ through tonight.

Winds today will continue to be gusty creating blowing and some drifting snows. Those winds will also make the 20s for highs feel more like single digits at times. Brrrr.

Where does the pattern go from here? Where else would you expect it to go this winter but toward more of the same. Our harsh wintry period will continue with the threat for several more snow systems to go along with well below normal temps. The arctic outbreak for the second half of January is still very much on the table as well. Both the GFS and European Models have been showing bitter cold air invading much of the country toward the end of next week. That is the same time frame as many of those extreme temp maps I was showing you more than a week ago.

Flurries and an eastern Kentucky snow shower will still be likely Thursday as highs return to the 20s again.

We will then turn our attention toward the weekend and a clipper heading into the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes. This clipper should spread, at least, light snow in here for Saturday and Sunday.

That will usher in a glancing shot of arctic air for Sunday and set the stage a storm to form early next week across the deep south and make a run at us. This could bring rain or snow or both to the region and will make for something else for us to watch closely. Given the winter trends… snow should be the main precip type.

I will have more udpates as needed so check back. Have a great Wednesday and take care.
