1PM UPDATE

Good afternoon everyone. Snow continues to fly across most of the state and that will continue into the evening hours. Many areas of northern Kentucky have already picked up 2″-3″ of the white stuff with lighter amounts in the south.

Another moderate band of snow is working eastward across the state right now with wraparound snows beginning to fill in nicely behind it. These wraparound snows will really kick in tonight into Wednesday and I continue to be impressed with the snows this can lay down. I will get a new snow map out a little later this afternoon.

Keep doing what you’re doing and giving us reports from where you live. Have a great afternoon and take care.

9:30AM UPDATE

Good morning once again. Let me start by saying thanks for all the reports from where you live… it is much appreciated. The first batch of snow is moving across northern and northeastern Kentucky and is putting down an inch or so of snow fairly quickly. There is a bit of a break back to the second wave of snow that is working into east central Kentucky as I type.

This line will also put down a quick inch or two as it rolls eastward. The highest totals will continue to be in the north with lighter stuff the farther south you live.

Wraparound snows will then kick in this evening and overnight and carry us through Wednesday into early Thursday. I want to stress I am VERY impressed with the setup during this time. Snow amounts can exceed 4″ across parts of eastern Kentucky with the backlash snows and squalls. It also looks like much of central Kentucky all the way back toward the Louisville area will get in on more accumulating snows. Throw in gusty winds and blowing snow may become an issue.

More updates coming later. Take care.

8AM UPDATE

Good morning everyone. Sleep is for the weak, so your friendly weather dude is up and running early this morning. The forecast appears to be in very good shape at this point. Moderate snow is falling across much of the northern half of the state with lighter snows in the south and this trend should continue through the day.

Roads, including Interstates 64, 75 and 65, are becoming snow covered in many areas. This snow is a HIGH IMPACT event for the Louisville, Lexington and Cincy metro areas. Use caution if you must be out driving.

Keep giving us reports from where you live and I will drop by for updates as needed. Take care.

PREVIOUS UPDATE

Good Tuesday everyone. We are getting set for a one- two punch of snow from old man winter over the next few days. This should put down some decent snow totals for much of the area from today through Thursday.

I don’t have anything new to add as it is all up to the old man to deliver at this point. Before we get to your tracking toys… let’s recap my thoughts.

– Snow will break out quickly from west to east this morning, reaching eastern Ky by mid morning.

– The heaviest snows will fall across the north during round one as 2″-4″ will be likely through tonight. Totals will be lighter the farther south you live with 1″-3″ across the southern half of the state during this same time.

– Areas in the south and southeast may go through most of the daylight hours without much accumulating snows.

– As low pressure works eastward this evening… wraparound snows will kick in overnight and continue through Wednesday and into early Thursday. This is a potent setup that will deliver more accumulating snows to many areas. The snow ratios for this period will be very high as we maximize all available moisture.

– Winds will crank up tonight as arctic air moves in and this will create some blowing snow into Wednesday.

I have no real changes to the snowfall maps from the last few days. Please be sure to check the forecast times on those maps. Patience is a virtue!
