Good Tuesday to one and all. It’s another very active weather day across Kentucky as rounds of severe storms rumble through. These storms bring the potential of everything from tornadoes to flash flooding.
Here’s a quick breakdown of how today may play out:
- A round of strong to severe storms starts the day as a warm front lifts northeastward.
- Warm and unstable air surges in behind this warm front with southern Kentucky hitting the 80s.
- Low pressure then rolls from west to east across the lower Ohio Valley.
- This puts Kentucky in the warm sector, leading to rounds of strong to severe storms.
- These storms fire up and roll from west to east this afternoon and evening.
- Damaging winds of 60mph or greater will be likely with many of these storms.
- The potential for tornadoes is certainly there with the chance for a few strong tornadoes across southern Kentucky.
- Storms will pack a lot of rain, and this may very well cause flash flooding issues to develop in some areas.
- All of today’s storms will pack a ton of lightning, so keep that in mind.
The Storm Prediction Center has been steadily increasing the overall threat for today. Here’s the latest Severe Weather Outlook…

The potential for tornadoes continues to show up and, unfortunately, the greatest risk is across some of the areas that were hit by the deadly Friday night tornado. Once again, the SPC is showing the chance for a few strong tornadoes…

The potential for significant wind damage is also showing up once again…

Golf ball sized hail or larger will also show up…

The rest of the week turns VERY chilly with scattered showers and a storm or two. The chilly weather lasts into Memorial Day Weekend as more showers and storms rumble back in late Saturday or Sunday and likely hang tough into Memorial Day.
This will be one of the coolest Memorial Day Weekends you will ever find around here.
I’ll be on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm. Until then, here are all the storm tracking tools you need to start the week…

Possible Watch Areas
Make it a terrific Tuesday and take care.

Thanks Chris for all your hard work, and great information. I’m hoping that today’s storms, will NOT be like what we had this past Friday.
Please Stay Safe Everyone ! I want all of you around to shovel Snow this coming Winter.
I don’t think it will be that chilly.
