Good Friday, everyone. Torrential rains and strong storms blasted the Bluegrass state Thursday, and this pattern is just getting started. Rounds of showers and storms will continue today and hang tough this weekend into the first half of next week.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Thunderstorms today will come at us in clusters and can put down local 2″-4″ rain amounts in a short amount of time.
- Additional areas of flash flooding are a good bet.
- Bigger complexes of thunderstorms develop to our northwest and drop into Kentucky over the weekend into early next week.
- These storms will be loaded with lightning and torrential rains, bringing several inches of rain for some areas.
- Flash flooding is a good bet once again with the greatest threat across central and eastern parts of the state.
- Some of these storm complexes could be strong or severe, bringing the potential for damaging winds.
- Outside of the storms, it’s a steam bath of an atmosphere.
Flood Watches are out for parts of the region today and some of these should get extended into the weekend. Here’s a look…

Here are the current warnings out for the area…

I mentioned the clusters of storms dropping in from the northwest this weekend and early next week. This map shows the area most at risk…
Some of these storms may be strong or severe and the Storm Prediction Center is seeing this potential. Here’s the Severe Weather Outlook for Saturday…

Make it a fantastic Friday and take care.

so around this time of the year is when the power bill comes out…Well, mine is $250 this month…. While I’ve had those types of bills in the dead of winter, I don’t ever remember having one that high in the summer… I think one summer month it was $230… An average bill can be anywhere from $130 to 190 (for my house)
I meant to say this time of MONTH… not year. I wish it were only ONCE a year
My power bill is maybe $125. Summer is great.
Less rain and more sun would be nice.
I remember complaining in mid April when we hit 82.8°. Too hot; too early. Now that sounds way more attractive for a daytime high. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Going get way too hot next week.
Not really
Chicago’s official high temperature yesterday of 72 degrees was the first time since June 14th that the high did not reach at least 80 degrees, a streak of 32 days in a row of 80+ degree temps.
Rainfall has been somewhat above average this month here, but not near the excess of rainfall most of you guys have gotten in KY. O’Hare Airport has received 3.29 inches of rain so far this month, while the NWS Office in the SW Suburbs has received only 1.43 inches.
