Good Tuesday, everyone. It’s a MUCH better day for most of Kentucky as our front has just about tapped out when it comes to showers and storms. Comfy air is in for many areas, but this won’t hang out long as a steam bath of a pattern surges in and brings more in the way of scattered storms with it.
Here’s a breakdown of where we go from here:
- Central and eastern Kentucky get in on some pretty awesome air out there today as skies become mostly sunny.
- The west continues to be in the midst of a torrid setup with high humidity and heat index numbers greater than 100.
- There’s also the chance for a storm or two in the west today.
- Wednesday is another mainly dry day as the heat and humidity out west slowly push east.
- Highs on Wednesday reach 85-90 in central and eastern Kentucky with 90-95 out west. Heat index numbers reach 105 or better in the west and 95 or so in the central and east.
- Thursday and Friday turns steamy for the entire region as the heat index pushes 95-100 for most of central and eastern Kentucky. 105 or better in the west.
- Similar numbers show up for the weekend.
- Scattered storms develop as early as Thursday with greater coverage this weekend and early next week.
- Hit and run high water issues and a few strong storms are possible.
The latest GFS shows the next stormy setup pretty well. This animation starts Thursday and goes through early next Wednesday morning…
The EURO is similar…
That’s ahead of what may be a bit of a trough digging into the eastern half of the country as we head into the start of August. The AI version of the EURO is the most aggressive with this…
I’ll take any August trough I can get! ha
Here are your tracking tools for the day…

Make it a terrific Tuesday and take care.

We finally saw a storm hold together long enough to drop what turned out to be an appreciable amount of rain. 1.35 inches fell in less than an hour, and cooled things off a bit. Before the rains came, my PWS recorded a heat index of 121.3°F, which was the highest value this season.
We had some very good rains yesterday, and we don’t need anymore for a week or so. I don’t know what our heat index was, as I don’t have a personal weather service to record such. I remember when we didn’t have a heat index forecast. Just the actual temperature was given. Looking forward to a few days of Sunshine and near normal temperatures.
I was watching the precipitation sag south of us, flowing through your neck of the woods, Joe and Schroeder. Glad you got some good rain.
Just the right amount.
That trough won’t happen.
Probably not, nothing forecast is panning out these days
I don’t think the weather pattern will change too soon. We are stuck in ENSO / neutral with a negative PDO. NOAA doesn’t really know, or anyone else about what will happen to the Surface Sea Temperatures in the Pacific going into Fall and Winter. The only event that can be accurate is that the daylight is declining.
Correction to the above : day length not daylight. It’s early folks LOL…
