Good Thursday afternoon. We are getting ready to welcome in several rounds of light snow and snow showers that will continue into the start of the upcoming weekend. The action will kick off later this evening as a front slams through the state.

This should carry a nice little burst of snow with it into the overnight hours… especially in the east where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect into Friday…

Looking at the latest data and getting a better handle on the individual pieces of energy diving in from the northwest over the next few days… I have updated the snow map…

I beefed up totals just a bit for many as the disturbances cruising through will fairly stout. The first arrives late this evening into overnight… another sometime Friday then again Saturday morning. Bursts of heavier snows will accompany each of these leading to slick travel.

Track the first wave of light snow in here from the northwest…

In terms of the storm early next week… I really have no changes in my thought process. The models will continue to show a big hit followed by a not so big hit… then flip it around from run to run. Folks… this is what models do from so far out and why I am always preaching for forecasters to not waffle based on what a model shows. The pattern continues to look VERY favorable for a big storm to come rolling from the southwest through the deep south then up the coast with a front running low into the Tennessee Valley.

I will have more thoughts on next week and an update to the snowy period that is upon us later this evening so check back. Have a great Thursday and take care.
