Good Thursday to one and all. Rounds of showers and storms arrived on cue Wednesday and these were loaded with torrential rains. Flooding was reported into parts of central Kentucky and we will face a similar threat over the next few days. These storms are developing in a tropical air mass and can put down a ton of water in a short amount of time.

Let’s break down what we’re dealing with…

– Clusters of showers and storms will continue to work across the state today into Friday.

– Torrential rains will cause additional high water concerns in some areas. Some spots can pick up a quick 2″-3″ of rain in an hour or two.

– The rain won’t be constant and many areas will see a lot of dry time in between the rounds of boomers.

– Most of the state will average 1″-3″ of rain from Wednesday through the coming weekend.

– The focus of the heaviest rain may end up being across the southern half of the state as our front slips a bit farther to the south by the weekend.

What are we dealing with beyond this? The pattern will feature a dip in the jet stream that will take us through much of next week. Check out how the European looks during this time and you can see the change…

That will likely feature disturbances dropping in from the northwest with scattered showers and storms. It will also keep temps below normal for the period. Does that even qualify as breaking news now?

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Have a great Thursday and take care.
