Good afternoon, everyone. Our light snowmaker continues to slowly wind down across eastern Kentucky this afternoon. This system pretty much behaved like I thought it would, putting down an inch or two from near Louisville all the way into eastern Kentucky where locally higher amounts were located.
This is our 3rd snowfall of December already and we are only 8 days into the month. While we had a Winter Weather Advisory issued for several counties at the last minute, these were still not expansive enough.
The one thing I’ve noticed with many forecasters, especially younger ones, is they put out details WAY too early then never deviate from them, even when the data shows otherwise. We have to be flexible with forecasts, especially when forecast models are horrific with details beyond a day or two right now.
Here’s what’s left of the Winter Weather Advisory…

You can track also catch the light snowfall playing out on our Kentucky Weather Cams .
Frigid wind chills continue this afternoon into the start of our Tuesday. That when gusty winds from the southwest kick in ahead of an approaching arctic front arriving Wednesday afternoon and evening. The winds along and ahead of this system may gust to 40mph-50mph…
Get those inflatable Christmas decorations down, folks!
That system has some showers ahead of it with a big temp drop and snow showers behind it. The flow may even have a direct connection to Lake Michigan for a time early Thursday. I’ve seen setups like this in the past put down accumulating snows in central and eastern Kentucky and that’s what I’m looking for Wednesday night and Thursday…
From there, the models will continue to vary greatly on how they handle the clippers/snow and arctic cold. Each run of each model is different with the details. Here’s the latest GFS from Wednesday through the next Monday…
Another update or two will come your way later today, so check back. I will also have a few updates on my Meteorologist Chris Bailey Facebook Page
Until then, here are your tracking tools for the day…

Make it a magnificent Monday and take care.
