Good evening, everyone. Gust winds are leading the charge into more winter weather with 3 snowmakers coming our way in the coming days. The first arrives behind the Wednesday arctic front crossing the state from northwest to southeast.
Temps drop all day long Wednesday as gusty showers give way to snow showers and squalls. Those kick in Wednesday evening into early Thursday and some of those may be fairly stout at times. Here’s the HRRR future radar showing all this…
Widespread coatings to 1″ will be likely into much of central and eastern Kentucky with higher amounts in the far southeastern mountains…
The timing on all this will mean slick roads Wednesday night and Thursday morning with a real shot at another snow day for some on Thursday.
The snow showers and flurries taper off during the afternoon and early evening, just in time for the next system to sweep in with a healthy swath of accumulating snows. Here’s the area I’m targeting at the best chance for a general 2″-4″ snowfall…
Short-range models like the NAM aren’t exactly built for this type of an event as they ALWAYS overdo the amount of Warm Air Advection and push things too far to the north to start, then they slide south with time.
Most of the other models agree on this general trajectory but there’s still some north-south wiggle room.
