Good Thursday, friends. A powerful fall cold front is crossing the bluegrass state today and this will touch off some booming showers and thunderstorms. This front will put an end to our steamy weather and usher in the coldest air since back in the springtime. We even have a shot at a few record lows this weekend. That’s a WOW!

Thunderstorms today could be a little on the strong side with torrential rainfall and a ton of lightning. A few of the boomers may contain high winds and small hail. Here’s regional radar to track the action…

The cold front sweeps through here this evening. Here’s a breakdown of what comes in behind the front…

– High temps Friday will range from the upper 60s across northern and eastern Kentucky to the low and mid 70s in the far west. Skies will become partly sunny with low humidity levels.

– Saturday will start with temps in the low and mid 40s for much of the state. This will put several spots within shouting distance of records.

– Saturday afternoon looks awesome with a lot of upper 60s to low 70s for highs.

– Sunday morning temps from 40-45 will also challenge record lows.

– Can a few of the traditional cold spots go below 40 at some point this weekend? There’s an outside shot of it and something to keep a eye on.

It looks like a reinforcing shot of cool air moves our way on Monday. This cold front may touch off a shower or two…

GFS 2

That will keep temps in the mid and upper 70s for highs for the first part of the week. The pattern will change a bit by the middle and end of the week as we try to storm it up. The setup late next week into next weekend may open the door to some tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico…

Several of the analogs had something tropical from the Gulf bring us rain at some point in late September or early October.

Have a great day and take care.
