Good Thursday and Happy New Year! As we start a new year, let me begin by saying thank you for making 2025 the biggest year yet here on KWC. Traffic on this site has increased from year to year since we first started it nearly 18 years ago. You guys rock!
Before looking ahead, here’s a look at where Lexington finished in terms of rainfall…
This top 10 wettest year ranking came even with August being the driest August in recorded history. Wild stuff!
Morning flurries are with us across the eastern half of the state with some hit and run light accumulations in the east and northeast. Winds are gusty with temps ranging from low 30s to low 40s across the state. Winds make it feel colder.
A southern system zips across the Tennessee Valley Friday night and Saturday and brings light rain and a light mix from west to east across Kentucky. The future radar from the Hi Res NAM only goes through 7am Saturday but shows the rain and mix…
Next week continues to look milder and milder as the change to harsh is pushed back a few days. The pattern is taking its time getting realigned, but it’s coming…

I’ll throw you another update or two later today. I’ll also have a few updates on my Meteorologist Chris Bailey Facebook Page
Until then, here are your tracking tools for the day…

Make it a wonderful New Year’s Day and take care.

Thanks Chris, and Happy New Year to you and your Family. In my County of Taylor, we recorded 63.46 inches of precipitation, which I believe is above normal, but not by much. A moderately warm year too, with below normal accumulating Snows. I can’t recall the last time we had a Winter with above normal Snowfall > than 13 inches. Had to be 2015 maybe ?
Here’s a recap of the weather in 2025 from the Climate Impact Company : )

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2026!
Happy New Year! I really enjoy this post every day, and the fun characters who comment!
A very Happy New Year to all my KWC friends! Also, a wish that energetic weather events, courtesy of our New Normal, are kept to a bare minimum!!
