Good Tuesday, everyone. Our quiet weather pattern is about to come to a booming end as showers and storms get ready to crank up. These boomers will kick in as early as late tonight for some areas and will become more widespread as we hit the weekend.
We really can’t complain about the stormy pattern ahead. We have had a gorgeous streak of weather days and we could use a few drops.
Highs today will top out in the low and mid 70s for many under a mix of sun and clouds. Those clouds will increase late in the day and may spit out some showers and storms in the west late this evening into tonight.
Scattered showers and storms will be around on Wednesday and some of these will contain heavy rains. The rain and clouds will do a number on temps. Areas seeing showers and storms will have a hard time getting out of the upper 60s.
A bit of warmer air tries to move in for Thursday and Friday. We make a run at 80 in some cases, but showers and storms will have the final say on temps.
A strong cold front moves in here late Friday into Saturday. This system looks to have some pretty good moisture to work with and I expect showers and storms to become widespread. Here’s the GFS timing of the front…
That front may end up slowing down more than the models are currently indicating. If that’s the case, the threat for showers and storms may be around for much of the weekend.
The air coming in behind this front is pretty cool, but the core of the cool stays to our north…
I continue to focus on the possibility of tropical development in the eastern Gulf or along the southeastern coast this weekend into next week. The models continue to jump on a system down there and try to take it across Florida then north along the coast…

That’s something to keep a close eye on and that’s what we will be doing. I will also be doing a lot of winter weather research this week and will pass along any tidbits I can find. 🙂 This is how I’m spending my first full week off from work in over 2 years.
Have a great day and take care.
Chris, you are definitely dedicated!!!!
I love your forecast, even though I live in Huntington, I still keep up with your web page weather.
Thanks for all you do.
