Good Saturday, folks. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will be across the region to start the day out. This action will continue to drop very heavy rainfall as it pushes eastward. A blast of cool air is funneling in behind this system and the next few days look fantastic.
Many areas will pick up 1″-3″ of rain before the last drop exists the state later today. We’ve set this up for for a while, and now we just have to track the juice out of here. Regional radar will help you do just that…
Cooler air drier air surges in behind the strong cold front. This will usher in a chill to the air over the next couple of days. Lows Sunday and Monday will be in the low to mid 40s. Sunday’s highs will be in the mid to upper 60s east to low 70s west. Upper 60s to low 70s will be common on Monday.
Enjoy it… I expect some moisture to return by later Tuesday into Wednesday. That happens as another disturbance digs in from the northwest…
There will still be some tropical moisture down in the gulf and that system is going to try to pull some of that northward. We will keep a close eye on that one.
More than a week ago, I warned you guys this pattern was about to really crank up. We have the potential to see a pretty healthy dip in the jet stream before the month is over. Some of the models are going toward a massive cutoff scenario. The European Model is one of them…
That can bring some nasty weather to our region, if it plays out like that.
Have a great day and take care.

Thanks Chris for the update i’m keeping an eye out on the rain coming in since I live in Lewis Co. Ky flooding wont be good for this area. And if someone could tell me what he meant by nasty weather coming in our region if the jet stream does the dip it is showing? I hope he isn’t meaning snow cause i’m not ready for that yet lol!!!
It would mean a severe weather outbreak if that happened. 8-9 days out so things will change.
Thank you for helping clear that up for me sometimes I can be such a blonde lol. And yeah that doesn’t sound good at all for the region we’ve had bad luck when it comes to severe weather round here!!!
Climatological, severe weather this time of year in our area would more likely be strong damaging winds, large hail (not to mention some flash flooding, lots of dangerous lightning). Low chance of a relatively weak tornado or two.
At least in recorded history, KY and TN have never experienced twisters stronger than F2/EF2 during July, Aug and Sept. However, October has had F3s and November even F4s (including the F4 that hit Madisonville KY in Nov 2005).
Of course, way too early to know exactly what if any severe wx there will be a week plus from now. But as CB and others pointed out, the potential is there with that predicted big dip in the jet stream.
Perfect time for my six-year old son to take his first rain measurement in his new weather station we just set up!
Cool thing, Chris! Perhaps in another decade or so, I will be doing the same with a six year old son or daughter of mine.
But guess it would help to get married first ;). My fiancée and I will enter that realm before very long. We chose this time of year largely because this is normally a sunny, dry time of the year for our area. Time will tell if this holds up.
1.40 inches of rain this last night and this morning at my house in Lawrenceburg. Nice, soaking rain that amounted to about half of our normal for the month of September. I bet Todd up in Frankfort got nothing 🙂
The rain gods were nice this time, 1.75 inches in the gauge this morning 🙂
Most Saturday college football games in our area have been or will be spared inclement weather.
In contrast, as we speak (or type) it is absolutely pouring in Athens GA for the Georgia game there.
Last nice rain we need before the first frost. Awaiting the end of mowing season!
You all live in the west? Richmond got .5″ at most so far. I guess it is like the snow results for us too 😉
The I-64/75 fence has already set-up? Well, we know what the winter will hold then!
