Good Monday and Happy Groundhog Day. It’s a day that belongs to Bluegrass Bubba… the furry prognosticator is the best forecaster in the entire state and it’s not even close. Ol’ Bubba is likely to see his shadow, meaning winter isn’t close to being done.

If you’re a fan of the movie Groundhog Day, you’re not alone. This is one of the best “weatherman” movies you will ever find and I can relate to it on a number of levels. haha

The weather on this Groundhog Day finds our region slowly coming out of the deep freeze, but that doesn’t mean it turns mild. As a matter of fact, it’s still much colder than normal, just not as absurd as the past few weeks.

There’s also the chance for a few light snow showers and flurries working through the state. The hi-res NAM future radar shows the best chance for some hit and run accumulations in the north and northeast…

Weak low pressure then zips across the Tennessee Valley Tuesday into early Wednesday with snow and some rain from west to east across Kentucky. As this goes by, wraparound light snow and flurries would be common for the entire state Wednesday.

The future radar from the Hi Res NAM only goes through 7am Wednesday, but gives us a good idea of the sharp line between rain and snow on te front side of this…

Here’s a look at the First Call for Snowfall…

I’ll be updating that throughout the day as we get a better idea of where the area of constant snows set up. That may try to come a little farther south, so let’s see.

Temps are frigid behind this, ensuring many school districts spend another week out of the classroom.

A bigger blast of arctic air arrives Friday and lasts through the weekend. This is another well below normal blast of air, but the models are trying to get a milder surge into the Plains behind it…

If that milder surge moves in for a bit, my feelings won’t be hurt one bit!

Updates come your way later today. I’ll also have updates on my Meteorologist Chris Bailey Facebook Page

Until then, here are your tracking tools for the day…

Make it a great Monday and take care.
