Good Sunday, weather peeps. We have a cold front crossing the bluegrass state today. This system is moisture starved, but will create a drying band of showers as it rolls in. While we watch that… it’s next weekend that is really getting my attention.
Today’s rainfall will be most impressive across the western half of the state. Some areas here may pick up a quarter to half inch. That band of showers will dry up as it gets into central and eastern parts of the state. Some of you in the east may not see a thing. Here’s regional radar to help ya out…
Highs will be warmer in the east than the west. Temps may hit the low and mid 70s in the east and struggle to get out of the mid and upper 60s farther west.
A few showers will linger into Monday and that will mean a tricky temp forecast. Upper 60s to low 70s with some wiggle room looks good.
Temps warm into the mid and upper 70s for Tuesday through Thursday. A smattering of 80 degree temps will be possible for a few spots. Isolated showers and storms may try to pop on any given day.
That brings us to the intriguing part of the program. A storm system is likely to develop and work from the midwest into the Great Lakes from Friday into Saturday. This happens as a huge trough gets carved out across our region…
That’s pretty anomalous for this time of year and should provide quite the punch. I mentioned the storm heading into the Great Lakes… that will drag a big time cold front through here…![]()
The maps from above are from the European Model and would suggest decent thunderstorms followed by a frost threat. Most of the models have been suggesting something similar to what the European Model is showing. The latest GFS is among them. However… in true GFS fashion… it likes to get a little crazy. Here’s the Sunday afternoon run of the model…
It developed a secondary storm right on top of us that rolls up the Appalachian Mountains. JUST FOR FUN… I took a peek at the snowfall forecast from that run. Welcome to la la land….
The GFS is getting an early start on the bogus snow forecasts. 🙂
Back to reality… the pattern is favorable for the coldest air of the young fall next weekend. It has a shot at bringing us the first frost of the season.
Have a great Sunday and take care.

I for one think it would be kind of neat to see a few flurries flying by next weekend! Just sayin….
Another dry front thru Frankfort, bring on some interesting weather Chris, had enough of this boring stuff!
