Good Tuesday, everyone. Our mid-March pattern continues here in the middle of February and that may get us into some trouble later this week. That’s when a potent storm system brings the threat for strong to severe storms with some winter weather lurking behind that this weekend.
Temps today reach the 60-65 degree range for most of the state with the chance for temps to reach the upper 60s in the far south and west. Skies feature more clouds than sun, but it’s really nice day for this time of year.
Wednesday’s temps are back into the 60s with the chance for a scattered shower or storm going up.
Our potent storm system rolls from the mid-Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes Thursday into early Friday. This places our region in the zone for strong to severe storms to go up, especially Thursday afternoon and evening.
These storms have the chance to bring all modes of severe weather into the region. Damaging winds and large hail are the main threats, but there’s enough shear available to set some of these storms spinning, leading to the threat for a tornado or two.
The Storm Prediction Center has much of the region included in the Severe Weather Outlook for Thursday…

Here’s a look at the showers and storms going up and rolling through here…
The cold front associated with all this slows down right on top of us allowing for a few waves of low pressure to develop along it. The first low brings some rain into the state late Friday into early Saturday. The next wave may bring rain and some snow in here over the weekend. That would be followed up by a healthy cold blast with snow showers and flurries later Sunday and Monday.
Here’s the GFS with this setup…
The Canadian is seeing a similar setup…
Very cold air comes in behind this Sunday into early next week. Check out the wind chills from 7am Sunday to 7am Monday…
Those numbers are even colder Monday through Tuesday morning…
Another update or two comes your way later today. I will have updates on my Meteorologist Chris Bailey Facebook Page
Until then, here are your tracking tools for the day…

Make it a great terrific Tuesday and take care.

Thanks Chris. Hoping the Severe Weather Doesn’t Happen, And The Colder Air Takes Over For A While. An Old Saying Comes To Mind, ” Spring Weather In The Month Of February Is Worth Nothing. ” I Found This Out Many Times When I Was In The Nursery Business. Warm Weather Occurs Early. Last Long Enough To Bring The Plant Life Out Of Dormancy, Only To Be Frozen In The Spring Month Of April. The Mid – West Is No Place To Start A Plant Nursery. Found This Out Too Late.
Winter is starting to lose the battle.
Is anyone else having trouble with the ads on this site? Sometimes they cover the whole screen and are impossible to get rid of! I know they are necessary to pay for the site, but these are the most aggressive ones I’ve ever encountered!
There’s usually an “X” in the upper right corner of the ad that you can click on to get rid of the ad. It’s hard to find on some of the ads, but it’s there.
It reached 65 degrees Monday at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, shattering the previous all-time record high for the date of 58 degrees set way back in 1921.
It’s also been a very dry month so far, with just a few-hundredths of an inch of precipitation, and hardly any snow.
Yes, Winter is starting to lose the battle with Spring, but there’s still time here in the Chicago Metro Area for cold air and snow prospects. Not much time though for you guys in KY.
