Good Friday to one and all. Old Man Winter surges back into the Bluegrass state this weekend as our spring fling comes to an abrupt end. This surge of winter brings the chance for light accumulating snows and frigid temps.

Today is a much calmer weather day with temps way down from those crazy numbers of the past few days. Highs range from the mid 40s to upper 50s, depending on where you are.

A quick-moving system zips through here tonight and early Saturday and may have a few light rain and light snow showers with it.

From there, we watch a storm system developing across the south that makes a run toward the Carolinas. The exact track of this low is a work in progress with some of the models taking this far enough north to merge with an upper level system dropping in here from the northwest.

IF that happens, areas of central and eastern Kentucky could get in on some actual system snows. If that track is a bit farther south, we would still get in on snow showers and a few snow squalls kicking in for Sunday and Monday.

The GFS continues to be the model with the best interaction between the southern system and the upper level system dropping in…

The Canadian isn’t too far away from what the GFS is showing…

The snowfall map from the Canadian shows a light snowfall for much of central and eastern Kentucky…

The EURO was a big whiff with this whole setup up until recently, but it’s now similar to the above models…

Don’t be surprised if we have a few delays or cancellations Monday morning, especially in the east.

Frigid temps join in with the snow showers and squalls with highs likely staying below freezing Sunday and Monday with lows that can reach the upper teens. Wind chills have a chance to hit single digits by Monday morning.

This wind chill animation starts at 7am Sunday and runs through 7am Monday…

Those wicked wind chills hang tough through the rest of Monday into Tuesday morning…

Another update comes your way later today. I’ll also have updates on my Meteorologist Chris Bailey Facebook Page

Until then, here are your tracking tools for the day…
