Good Thursday, everyone. A fast-moving light rain and light snow maker is pushing through the Commonwealth early today. By the afternoon, things get much better with the final days of February looking great. March, on the other hand, can bring a lot of issues.
The best chance for a hit and run covering of slushy snow today is across the northern half of the state. If anything does stick, it’s gone this afternoon as sunshine returns from west to east. Temps hit the 60s in the west and the upper 40s in the east.
Friday looks awesome with temps around 60 in eastern Kentucky with upper 60s west…
Saturday is windy and very mild as we put the wraps on February and Meteorological Winter…
March first then is the start of Meteorological Spring and it arrives with a cold front dropping in from the north. This may have a broken band of showers along it as temps come way down. This boundary then stalls on top of us with a wave of low pressure developing along it and moving eastward.
This will have a band of winter weather along and north of the track Sunday night and early Monday. Can some of this sneak into Kentucky? Yes, but details are murky at best from this range.
The GFS has been the model of choice for snow lovers as it continues to show the best chance for winter weather…
The Canadian trended a little more toward the GFS…
The EURO is similar…
Milder temps surge in behind all this next week with temps late week into next weekend surging toward the 70s. Some pretty good storms may go up during this time as well.
The latest rainfall forecast from the EURO Weeklies continue to highlight my very active early spring pattern. The average rainfall forecast from the 101 members that make up the weeklies is concerning…
That’s A LOT of rain and is WELL above normal…
This obviously brings the increased threat for flooding, but also indicates an increased threat for strong to severe storms during this time.
I’ll have the full update later tonight. I’ll also have updates on my Meteorologist Chris Bailey Facebook Page
Until then, here are your tracking tools for the day…

Make it a great Thursday and take care.
