Good Saturday to one and all. It’s the final day of February and we are wrapping up Meteorological Winter on a very mild note. March looks to come in like a timid lion on Sunday, but that lion has a little roar to it on Monday as rain and snow works through.
This sets the stage for what will become a VERY active March, upping the ante for flooding and severe weather. This is a setup I’ve been warning you about for a while and now, we are finding a lot of support for my fears.
Let’s begin with today and roll forward. Highs top out in the low and mid 60s for many with upper 60s to near 70 in the far west and south. Skies are mostly sunny with an increase in clouds this afternoon. Those clouds are ahead of a weak cold front slipping through here tonight, bringing a few showers along for the ride.
Temps for Sunday are seasonably chilly for the first day of March, but nothing we can’t handle.
The cold front moving in here tonight stalls out with a wave of low pressure rolling along it for late Sunday night and Monday. That brings a period of rain and some snow zipping through Kentucky with the chance for some of that snow to stick.
The best chance for a slushy accumulation will be across the northern half of the state. Just like what we saw a few days ago, anything that sticks may melt off fairly quickly during the afternoon and evening as temps stay above the freezing mark.
The GFS continues to be the model showing the greatest opportunity for a light snowfall…
The setup after this will feature very mild temps surging in with highs from Tuesday through next weekend in the 60s and 70s. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms will be noted during this time with the potential for some severe weather and a ton of rain. This animation from the EURO starts Tuesday and runs all the way through March 12th…
The Weather Prediction Center is really upping the language on the heavy rain and potential of flooding for the second week of March. Here’s the map highlighting their concerns…
The EURO Weeklies keep beating the drum on an incredibly wet next month and change. This is a ton of rain showing up through early April…
Another update comes your way later today. Make it a sensational Sunday and take care.
