Good Friday, folks. We’ve made it to the first weekend of October and things are certainly rocking and rolling across the country. The weather pattern has shifted into overdrive and that means some big changes will work into Kentucky over the next few days.

It’s not often you see a map as wild as the one we have out there today. The big three of extreme weather all show up…

Special GraphicA blizzard across the Rockies and northern plains… a tornado outbreak in the midwest… and a tropical system ready to make landfall across the Gulf states. I’m sure we have seen those three on the same map before, but I can’t recall ever seeing it.

How will that whole mess interact as we head into the weekend and what impact will it have on our weather? That’s the million dollar question. Let’s try to answer it…

– Today looks windy, warm and humid with highs around 80. Isolated showers and storms may fire up.

– Saturday will be another very wind, warm and humid day with isolated storms. Storms will increase from west to east late in the day.

– Rain and storms will become widespread from west to east Saturday night and Sunday. This happens as the front pushes into the state. I do expect this to draw up some moisture from what’s left of Karen.

– Much cooler air will blow in behind the front Sunday.

– Rain will likely linger into Monday… especially in the east. Whatever is left of Karen is going to try to cutoff across the Appalachian Mountains. That may keep some showers around into Tuesday and Wednesday. Here’s the European Model showing the cutoff…

This will be an interesting weekend to see how wild the atmosphere wants to get.

I leave you with the tracking tools for Karen…

I will update as needed. Take care.
