Good Saturday, everyone. Warm and humid weather in October isn’t supposed to happen. This is usually a red flag for some wild weather and that may be what we have in store for us over the next few days. Showers and storms will be on the increase and some of these may become strong or severe.
All of that will set the stage for a big time temperature swing. More on that in a bit. Let’s get started with the big daddy storm across the plains. Devastating tornadoes on the front side of the storm hit parts of the midwest. Behind it… a blizzard with nearly 40″ of snow and 71mph winds. Wow!
The storm will roll eastward and have a major impact on our weather through Monday. Scattered showers and storms will crank up across the state today. It’s western Kentucky that may get in on strong or severe storms before the day is over. Here’s what you need to have to track today’s storms…
– The front moves our way on Sunday. Scattered thunderstorms will be around early in the day as winds really crank up. A squall line of thunderstorms will race into central and eastern Kentucky by Sunday afternoon and evening.
– Some of the storms late Sunday and Sunday evening may be strong or severe. If we can get several hours of Sun ahead of this line… watch out. Damaging winds will be possible.
– The slow moving line of showers and storms will then continue into Sunday night and early Monday. Locally heavy rains of 1″+ will be possible.
– Very chilly air comes in behind it by Monday. Highs may struggle to get to 60.
Make it a great Saturday and take care.

First time since 1982 Lexington has seen October open with 5 straight days of 80 or better.
I hope there is no coincidence, but December of 1982 was very warm. High’s in the 70’s and lows in the 50’s and 60’s for 3 straight days!
None. 1982 had one of the strongest El Ninos on record.
Didn’t think there would be, but good to know what made 1982 stand out. The 1980’s featured some strange Decembers! ’82 and ’84 very warm; ’83 and ’89 bitterly cold.
Extreme rain with lightning in Frankfort, Wow, look out Lexington and Keeneland areas!
You mean you got some rain? I’m impressed 🙂
I’ve had a downpour or two in Lawrenceburg but nothing to write home about. I mowed today for only the 2nd time since September 1st..I’m ok with that.
around 2 inches so far and still raining, Frankfort has some low lying area flooding in some areas, this is overachieving big time today!
I just hope this means the last of the muggy/humid weather. I’m ready for some cool, crisp mornings and pleasant afternoons.
I’m all in for that too!
Just remembered, if we get a bad flood or severe storm or tornado, the NWS is not going to tell ya, government shutdown says so!
Oh well we got Chris, who needs those guys anyway 🙂
Because they help protect life and property, they will remain on the job. You’re good to go.
