Good Tuesday, everyone. Mother nature is giving us some great fall weather and that should continue for most of the week. While we are enjoying a lot of the good stuff, the pattern for the middle and end of October appears to be changing. High latitude blocking is beginning to show up and that may lead to some fun times.

The short term weather will feature chilling morning around 40 today and Wednesday. Afternoon highs will hit the middle 60s today and the upper 60s to low 70s Wednesday. That’s when we watch a few clouds increase from a storm along the east coast. That may throw a shower into eastern Kentucky before the day is through.

From there… highs head into the 70-75 degree range for the end of the week into Saturday. A cold front will bring the threat for showers and storms our way by Sunday. It will also knock our temps down into early next week.

That’s when the pattern shows signs of cranking back up. Most of the models develop a big storm across the Rockies over the weekend and then take it into the Great Lakes early next week…

GFS 3That could give us another period of rain and storms to be followed by a shot of cold air. That would then be followed by a big dip in the jet stream that may carve out a deep cutoff low…

GFS 4

The GFS Ensembles show that trough setting up and also show a ton of cold air invading Canada and trying to dive southward by the following week…GFS 5That will act to ramp up the snow cover across Canada and parts of the United States. Snow cover is already off to a fast start across the Northern Hemisphere…

SnowfallIt’s already well above normal and that doesn’t look to change anytime soon. A rapid build of of an expansive October snow cover can often signal a colder than normal winter in our part of the world. We shall see.

Have a great day and take care.
