Good Wednesday to one and all. A cold front is pushing across the state today and it’s bringing an end to the severe weather threat. Coming in behind it is a chilly air mass that will deliver a frost threat for the first weekend of May, otherwise known as Kentucky Derby Weekend.

Early day showers and storms are pushing across central and eastern Kentucky with a low-end severe threat in the east. Cooler winds push the storms to the east with a few lingering showers into the afternoon with highs mainly in the 60s.

Temps out there for Thursday should be low to mid 60s with a mix of sun and clouds.

Another weak boundary approaches from the northwest for Kentucky Oaks Day Friday and will bring a scattering of showers along for the ride.  At the same time, low pressure looks to pass by just to our south Friday night and early Saturday, potentially brushing the southeast with a shower.

You can see all this on the EURO from Friday morning through Saturday evening…

High temps are well below normal for the rest of this week into Derby Weekend with the chance for a day or two to stay in the 50s.

Frost is a real threat, especially Saturday night and Sunday morning. If skies clear enough, there’s the chance for some patchy stuff on Derby Morning…

Lows may flirt with the freezing mark Sunday morning…

This will be followed by a series of systems dropping in from the northwest over the first few weeks of May. Watch these bad boys showing up on the EURO from Sunday night through May 13…

That type of a setup is good for additional beneficial rain numbers over this two week span…

That same pattern is also good for well below normal temps, especially for week one of May…

May should be a cooler than normal month and the EURO Weeklies show this overall pattern settling in through early June…

I’ll have the latest on WKYT-TV and WKYT+. Until then, I leave you with the tools you need to track today’s showers and storms…
