Good Tuesday, folks. The above normal temps we’ve had for the better part of the past month are about to become a thing of the past. It will be replaced by a cold setup that will send our temps in the opposite direction. That change will be ushered in by some showers and thunderstorms over the next few days.
Today’s weather will feature temps in the low upper 60s and low 70s with clouds increasing. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will come calling to western and central parts of the state. Regional radar is your best good friend…
The cold front is right on top of us early Wednesday and will lead to greater coverage of showers and some thunder. Winds will be very gusty as the colder air sweeps in. Temps will drop into the upper 50s to low 60s right behind the front.
Temps by Thursday morning will drop into the upper 30s and low 40s under mainly clear skies. That sky won’t last long as clouds increase ahead of a fast moving system. Showers will work through here during the afternoon and evening hours…
That could give us a very chilly and raw day with highs in the 50s for some areas. Clearing skies by Thursday night will allow our temps to hit the upper 30s to low 40s again.
Another cold front arrives Friday night into Saturday and may produce a shower or two. This will reinforce our chilly air. Highs from Friday through Sunday look to be in the upper 50s to low 60s. Lows each night will depend on how clear the skies are. Any night that sees our skies clear could see, at least, some patchy frost.
A colder shot of air is likely by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week…
This is also a pattern that is going to try to produce a few big storm systems over the next few weeks. That will be something to keep a close eye on.
Thinking this pattern breaks down? Think again.Look at the GFS Ensembles temp departure map as we head into the last week of October…
November has a fun look to it! 😉
Have a great day and take care.

Through October 14, the average monthly temperature departure is
+5.5 for Lexington
+5.3 for Frankfort
+4.8 for Louisville
+4.4 for Bowling Green
The average temp for today is 68/47.
It is going to take a bunch of days with highs in the 50’s and lows in the 30’s to get the month back down to normal. It appears that might be what is coming.
We are already past the average longer term first frost date. But before the shorter long-term. (1981-2010) The first frost and freezes have been trending later and the last frost and freezes earlier. For more info, link below.

I think Chris is trying to say some snow chances might appear by late Oct/early November. It’s OK, Chris. Go ahead and say it. Lord knows most of us who read this site are LONG overdue for some serious white fluff!
lol he can’t say it, then if he is wrong he gets BASHED by the haters haha
Thank you Chris. well, I guess it is supposed to be getting colder now, since we are in mid October. Not sure about all that 30s stuff, but, all in all, this year has been an unusual one in the weather world, at least around here. Gonna enjoy today, as it looks like dodging raindrops and puddles at work begins tomorrow. Have a GREAT Tuesday, everyone.
Again, thanks, Chris, for all you do.
I could use a few more weeks of the 70 degree weather, then bring on some serious snow chances say mid November thru December 🙂
you are not kidding! this week has been fabulous! and I am going to enjoy a lower KU bill since neither of my AC units have kicked on for more than a week.
I am ready for some colder days–it is mid-October, after all! Bring on frosty mornings, chilly nights, electric blankets, and a snow flurry in the air. 🙂
