Good Friday, everyone. We’ve made it to the end of the week and we’re starting out our Friday with a kiss of frost in some areas. This will be followed by warmer temps with a few storm chances showing up for Mother’s Day Weekend.

This update is a rather lengthy one as I talk about the emerging El Nino and the impact it may have on our weather.

Let’s begin with today and the temps that are into the mid and upper 30s to start and the 70s to end. Skies are partly to mostly sunny.

A quick hitting system brings scattered showers and storms in here tonight and early Saturday but this blows out of town very quickly. Highs top out in the 70s for a really nice looking day.

Another system moves in later on Mother’s Day into Sunday night, bringing a few showers and storms along for the ride…

Temps come way back down to chilly levels on Monday with the chance for some more frost Monday night and early Tuesday as temps hit the 30s…

Another system drops in late Tuesday and Wednesday with a few more showers. This unleashes another round of well below normal temps. Temps next week as a whole are pretty ugly compared to normal…

Looking down the road toward summer, we see an intense El Nino that is developing along the equatorial waters of the Pacific Ocean. This warming event is forecast to become a strong El Nino that can reach rare Super El Nino status. The forecast for region 3.4 is off the dang charts…

Those numbers would make this El Nino one of the strongest ever recorded. The top 3 strongest El Ninos ever recorded are from 1982, 1997 and 2015…

What did the average of those 3 summers look like across the country? This is a lot real estate with below normal temps from June through August…

Those 3 summers also averaged wetter than normal around here…

While that’s a small sample size, it’s all we have to go by in terms of Super El Ninos, but it gives us a glimpse into what this summer may look like.

I leave you with your Kentucky Weather Radars to track the evening showers and storms toward the state…

Have a fantastic Friday and take care.
