Good Friday, gang. We are heading into the weekend on a chilly, but pretty nice weather note out there today. That isn’t a sign of things to come as another cold front swings in here early Saturday. That front is one in a series of fronts that bring colder and colder air to much of the eastern half of the country over the next few weeks. Can it bring along something else?
Some low clouds and fog may be around for some areas early today as temps drop toward the upper 30s and low 40s. Sunny skies return by the afternoon with temps heading toward the low 60s.
The next front zips in here on Saturday and brings another round of quick hitting showers…

Talk about chilly… temps during the rain may be in the upper 40s and low 50s with gusty winds. There’s some ugly with that Saturday forecast.
That should set the stage for our first real frost threat Sunday morning. Lows will drop into the mid and upper 30s for many. The cold spots may make a run at the freezing mark.
Two more cold fronts make a run at us by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Those fronts will unleash a major shot of cold air. The GFS continues to advertise some rain and snow showers across the Ohio Valley with both fronts. Here’s the Tuesday morning one…
The system moving in on Wednesday is the one that has more of an interesting look to it. To see the model with the rain/snow line that far south in October is impressive…
Of course, that doesn’t mean it will play out that way. It is something to keep a close eye on. Lake effect rain and snow showers may try to kick in for Thursday on a strong northwesterly wind flow across the Ohio Valley…
Highs in the 40s will be very possible for a few days. Lows should hit the upper 20s at some point.
Look at how far below normal the GFS is forecasting the Wednesday temps…
I’m also targeting the days leading up to Halloween for an even colder outbreak of air around here. Check out this MASSIVE trough forecast to develop the day before the month ends…
I will have updates as needed. Make it a great day and take care.
Coolest morning since May 13 in Lawrenceburg. 38 as of 6:00 A.M. I’m looking back at my records and we had a really late frost last Spring. It was 35 on May 13.
40’s with rain for saturday?? Please dont get that old broken reckord spinning again this year….. I thought someone would find it and trash it after we listened to it so many times last year…
record.
Its only October. Wait till Jan and Feb when we can look forward to 33 degree rain.
….with a January severe t-storm/tornado outbreak or two thrown in for good measure.
Don’t forget about the donut hole. You know as were all getting excited accumulating snow is approaching and right before the snow hits the famous donut hole developes. By the time the infamous donut hole fills in, all the good convection is to our north or to the south or east of us and the accumulating snow has left leaving us a healthy dusting.
Seems this was the case during the first few days of January 2011. Bowling Green maybe got a few flakes if that much. Nashville about four inches. But areas along the Tennessee-Alabama border had a whopping 16 inches (Huntsville AL and Chattanooga TN nearly a foot).
Same snowstorm that brought Atlanta to its knees.
But seriously, our area is entering a secondary tornado season. It may be only a fraction of what spring gets. But fall is more dangerous tornadowise than the summer months. November 2005 was a stark reminder with the F4 at Madisonville KY and the deadly F3 at that Evanville IN mobile home park. So a good time to review safety rules.
I will have to say this has been true of most winters in the past ten years. But 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 were exceptions in Lexington and points North/West at least. I had about 38 inches of snow at my house for 2010 calendar year. Not too shabby for KY!
For what its worth–today is about as good as it gets in Central KY. Cool morning (37 in Lawrenceburg) but warm afternoon. Opening he blind in the house warmed it from 69 this morning to 73 and rising this afternoon. I’m cheap–love it when I don’t have to run the heat or a/c.
Hey there CB!! Wish I was where you are right now!! I guess I’ll have to settle watching all the action from the couch!! Have some Big Blue Fun!!
