Good Tuesday, everyone. Your friendly weatherdude is taking in the sighs and sounds from our nation’s capital early this week. Spending it with a bunch of 5th graders takes a lot out of effort. But, I’m still here to keep you updated on the big changes blowing into town.
Let’s get straight to it…
A cold front swings across the state early today and will bring a gusty band of showers. These will be keep temps in the 40s as the drops fall. Here’s regional radar to make your BFF…
This is a quick hitting system that comes and goes early in the day. Some afternoon sun will boost temps toward the 50-55 degree range.
We have two more fast moving systems rolling across the state over the next few days. The first one arrives early Tomorrow with band of cold showers. A wet flake or a touch of sleet will be possible… especially in the north and the east. Highs will struggle in the 40s.
The next system comes in by Thursday morning with even colder air. That means some showers of rain or mixed rain/snow will be possible in a few spots. You can see this well on the GFS precipitation type…
Highs will head back into the low and middle 40s. A little leftover moisture could be in the form of sprinkles or Flurries as we head into the evening…
Again… this is just the threat for a few flakes and not something to do a snow dance for. 🙂
Lows by Friday morning head into the middle 20s and could get close to a couple of records.
Nothing has changed with my thoughts on next week and I will touch more on that after my trip.
Make it a great day and take care.

Been there on that DC trip, Chris. Have fun, and let’s keep the DC weather cooperative!
Not wanting to get everyone all worked up, but I hope this is not our winter!!! Over the past two years we have seen very little snow and warmer than normal temps. (only talking for the Lou. area) Now here we are in the last couple of weeks of Oct. and we are set in a winter pattern. This hyperactive patter needs to come back around in early Jan. and stick around until March. I am sure we will see a nice little warm up between the 2nd week of Nov. through Xmas. I guess we will have to wait and see. Thanks Chris! Good day to all.
Do you not realize its only OCTOBER or what?
Get ready, folks.
Both NWS Louisville and NWS Paducah now have Freeze Watches out for Thursday night/Friday morning. The watches cover the entire jurisdictions of both Louisville and Paducah offices.
Chris–are you sure that cold front isn’t slated to arrive tomorrow? I’ve had nothing but wall to wall sunshine in Lawrenceburg. Temp up to 53–forecast to go to 56?
I actually heard a radio add on a Lexington station yesterday for snowmobiles! In KY? That’s nuts! In my 9 years here we have never had enough snow to run a SM, ever. If it came in a box, it would still be in the box. Someone must have been inhaling some odd vapors in order to think that add was a good buy! Actually – the add man who sold that time has got to be the best add man in the business!
You missed the 90s! 93, 94, 96, and 98 all had more than a foot of snow at one time those years 🙂
Yeah, I was out of the country (and state!) from 1990 – 2004. I seemed to have missed the good stuff. 🙁
WE are due a good one, so stay positive fellow snow lover!
The next one WILL be THE big one. 🙂
Seems I recall during the big January 2011 snow event in the deep south that someone ran a snowmobile in an Atlanta park.
Yes, Atlanta Georgia.
Perhaps it was a local person that normally took winter trips to the nearby Appalachians. Nevertheless, quite remarkable to have a snowmobile in Atlanta!
Have a great time Chris post us a pic.Its cold here today in east Ky my weatherbug says we are at 48 and it feels it.
I hope this winter we actually see more snow then we have seen in the last few years. I want one of those white christmas’s I remember from my childhood. I hope you have fun on your trip Chris and I would like to know your thoughts on how this winter is going to pan out!!!
Thanks, Chris. Glad you are getting to take in the sights of DC It is a beautiful city. And I am sure the 5th graders are having a ball! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on next week. In the meantime, have a great time and a safe trip.
thanks for keeping us updated even while you are away! I nominate you for best weatherman EVER! safe travels 🙂
