Good Monday, everybody. Our week is starting off on a rather calm note, but it’s not going to stay that way. Significant rounds of severe weather will be possible Tuesday as a powerful cold front drops in with some September air to follow.
Let’s focus on the severe setup for Tuesday and Tuesday night. Here’s a breakdown:
- Rounds of strong to severe storms develop just to the north of the Ohio River Tuesday morning.
- The leading line dives into northern Kentucky by early afternoon then impacts central and eastern Kentucky during the afternoon.
- This line should slow down with the overall forward speed, allowing for the back edge of the line to develop farther west across Kentucky.
- Damaging winds and a few tornadoes are the main threats with this.
- The potential is there for a few wind gusts to approach hurricane force.
- This also has the look of a potential significant flash flood maker for some areas.
- The exact locations won’t be known until we see where the storms decide to slow down and, potentially, train over the same areas.
- Much of the severe threat diminishes from north to south during the evening hours.

These storms will be loaded with lightning and torrential rains, giving us another round of flash flooding. Storms can put down several inches of rain across central and eastern Kentucky and this is the area being highlighted by the Weather Prediction Center…
Much cooler air comes in behind this system with upper 70s to low 80s for highs and lows reaching deep into the 50s by Thursday and Friday…

The potential for another deep trough to move into the eastern half of the country is there to close out July and begin August…

Not sure if you guys saw the last message but my AC went out. Mid July. I mean, why would it NOT go out in mid July? I have this small 5000 cheap BTU new window AC and I’m in LOVE with this thing. Yes, the HVAC is great but this is like a zoned cold for my small room. I slept SOOO good with it on last night. I always slept better in winter. Normally, we keep our AC on like 73/74 when it’s HOT, and around 72 when it’s moderately warm… so at night, I would like it colder than that, but we leave it alone… I wonder if I should get one of those dual hose portable AC’s to keep in my bedroom in the summer in addition to the regular AC? Since I live in an HOA that don’t allow window ACs. Luckily my window isn’t viewable from the street and sort of on the back of the house…
I have one of those portables in a backyard shed that I converted into a workshop. It has a duct that hooks into a window opening, and can bring the temperature down 15 to 20 degrees, compared to outside ambient temps.
