This kicks off a pattern full of cooler than normal air that will take us through the beginning of the upcoming weekend. Check out the below normal temps from the GFS from today through Saturday…
That below normal air for Friday and Saturday is in response to another system moving in with the chance for a few showers or storms.
Temps do try to surge toward normal late July readings by Sunday a, but that’s ahead of another dip in the jet stream by the middle of the week. That may be followed by another huge dip in the jet stream to start August.

We missed the worst of it here at my house. 1/2 inch of rain a little breeze, distant thunder… then that was it. I’m glad as I hate severe weather
Thanks Chris. We had around 1.60 inches. Like I said yesterday no severe weather to report. I feel that it’s the Southeast Ridge weakening the storms as they move southeast out of Indiana.
Beautiful summer weather here in the Chicago Metro Area for the next several days. Sunny skies, low humidity, good air quality, gentle breezes, and no rain with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s today warming to well in the 80s by later in the weekend.
It’s turned really dry here, as just about all the rain we’ve received this month fell in the first four days, with very little rain since then.
Despite the bias towards cool and wet, true Summer heat isn’t gone by a long shot. The blowtorch is coming.
