Good Friday, folks. Do you think November could announce its arrival in any louder fashion? Damaging winds of 50-60mph blew across the state late Halloween into early this morning. Thousands were left without power and numerous trees were knocked down. While I don’ think we top this event… I do think this may be a sign of a bumpy month ahead.
Things are calming down today as the sun returns. Winds will still be gusty, but nothing like what we had last night.
Another cold front arrives on Saturday and will bring the threat for a few showers our way. This is a good shot of chill into Sunday…
Call me crazy… but that still looks like a setup that will try to throw a snowflake in the highest mountains of the east Sunday night.
Highs Sunday will hit the upper 40s and low 50s. Seasonal temps will be with us early next week before another storm system brings showers and some thunder our way by Wednesday…
We have a healthy back and forth temperature pattern taking shape over the next few weeks. This could set the stage for several very wet weather makers around here. The November forecast from the CFS shows this…
While the first half of the month will likely be skewed a little warmer than normal… I expect that go get wiped out toward the end of the month as the cold settles in.
Have a great day and take care.
Lexington was the ONLY reporting station in Central Kentucky that had an above normal October. I am wondering if the National Weather Service actually cares about accurate data in Lexington. Chris, I know you have mentioned this before, but can you elaborate on what has happened to Lexington’s “official” temperature?
No no no, you see according to the NWS tweets the reporting station there at the airport always has a brisk southwesterly flow, even when the surrounding stations have a howling north wind apparently.
In all seriousness I’ve often wondered how hard it could be to install a second thermometer next to the one already there for a month. See if it reads the same.
The storm got pretty rough in the wee hours of the morning. Power went out a few hours, but we were in bed anyway. Winning!
Hey, BubbaG. Nice to see you again!
Don’t like to hear ‘warm’ in November. It’s fall…let it be fall!
Have you given the winter forecast?
1.5 inches of rain in east Frankfort last nite, over 6.5 inches in October, very wet for this time of year, hopefully the moisture will meet up with the cold air this winter, we are over due for a foot plus snowfall 🙂
I thought you said it had been dry 🙂 I’ll be mowing in Lawrenceburg on Christmas Day at this point 🙂
Strange as the rain totals are it was dry here just a few days ago, October 5th we had 4 inches of rain, then very until the last couple of days 2.6 inches in my gauge?
Very little 😉
Thanks, Chris. After last nights storms and wind, I am going to have to rake my yard, AND my driveway…and I don’t even have any trees in my yard! Between the wind and the weather radio going off last night, it was a pretty loud night. We didn’t lose power like others did, but we sure did have a lot of wind and rain. Want to take a minute here to thank you and all of the KYT weather team for the great coverage and updates we got yesterday. It was good to know what was coming and be prepared for it. I know some people thought trick or treating could have gone on as planned, but I for one am glad that so many postponed it until tonight. Weather is a lot better today for the little ones! Have a great Friday everyone!
Among other news relating to Thursday’s storm, a 75 mph wind gust was clocked in Muncie Indiana. Also, the NWS at Paducah has confirmed a few EF0 tornadoes in its area of jursidiction including Calvert City KY and is looking at other possible twisters.
But so far, I’ve come across only one minor injury (in Ohio). That of course is the good news.
Just a few downed limbs in my area. I’m lucky in that my power went out a few times but never for more than a few seconds. Other parts of Nashville (especially the southeast side) were less fortunate.
As others have already said, thanks CB for your tireless efforts!
