Good Sunday, everybody. It’s another absolutely amazing fall day out there as this beautiful weather pattern rolls on. We do have some changes on the way, though, as a big temp ride looks to be accompanied by some active weather for the start of October.
Temps this weekend have easily been the chilliest of the early fall season. Lows Saturday morning hit the low 40s in many locations…
I expect the numbers this morning to be in similar territory with an outside chance at the first upper 30 of the season. Highs this afternoon will be very similar to what we had on Saturday as this pattern remains stuck in neutral.
While our weather is amazing, the same can’t be said along the east coast as a powerful nor’easter continues to slam these areas with flooding, heavy rains, beach erosion and gusty winds. This thing is impressive on satellite…
Some of the clouds from that may show up across far eastern Kentucky as the center backs to the west a bit today and Monday. Otherwise, it’s a pretty awesome sky around here as temps slowly climb Monday and Tuesday.
We should reach the 80s for Wednesday and Thursday.
Those temps are ahead of a potent storm system spinning slowly across the Plains States. Part of this system will be from what’s left of Major Hurricane Polo that’s in the eastern Pacific. This heads toward Mexico over the next few days…
The hurricane models take the remnant low from this deep into the Southern Plains states before it merges with another system dropping in from the northwest…
Some of that moisture can make it in here ahead of a deep trough diving in by the weekend. This may also get a boost from tropical moisture from the Gulf, giving us a healthy shot of heavy rains…
Temps can turn really cool on a rainy day with a trough like that. 50s for highs? Maybe.
This trough will also bring in our first chance for some frost. All of this may very well be followed up by another shot of real deal fall chill a few days later. I spy some Barney on this temp departure animation from Friday through October 11th…

Been watching that nor’easter closely as my hometown of Long Branch NJ has taken a direct hit. I remember these growing up, although never so early in the fall. Most occur in the late fall through the winter, where they can drop a foot and a half of snow, driven by gale force winds.
Hopeful but not optimistic that will see meaningful rain in the near term. Dry air has been firmly entrenched, which is one of the reasons why storms this summer would get close, then fall apart.
Still looking at a major pattern shift towards the end of October.
