Good Friday, folks. A potent storm system will roll our way by late Sunday and bring high winds and possible severe thunderstorms. This may make for a wild ending to the weekend for much of the state.
Things are starting out with a big increase in temps and moisture today. This will lead to scattered showers going up during the afternoon and evening hours. You can track them on regional radar…

Highs today will reach the middle 50s as winds stay breezy. Those winds will begin to crank on Saturday as temps take off. Readings will surge well into the 60s with a shower chance continuing. Speaking of wind… this may end up being the big story on Sunday.
That’s when our storm system deepens en route from the midwest into the Great Lakes…
Showers and thunderstorms will increase during the day and we run the possibility of seeing strong and severe thunderstorms. Damaging wind will be the primary player with any storms that go up. With or without storms… winds may gust to speeds greater than 40mph.
I will have more on the severe weather potential with an update this afternoon.
Enjoy the day and take care.
Chris please tell me this is not a big tornado threat….
We still have two more days to tweak the forecast, and the models are still showing a little disagreement about factors like timing and the combining of key ingredients (somewhat of a NAM/GFS vs European battle). But at this time, western KY could have the somewhat higher tornado threat. Indeed, NWS Paducah’s homepage is now highlighting tornado safety rules alongside updates on the expected storms.
Marsha, by the time the storms reach you in eastern KY, it looks like they will have evolved into more of a strong damaging wind event. Perhaps a widely isolated twister or two, but mainly destructive straight-line winds. In other words, nothing like March 2 2012.
As always, stay tuned.
Thanks mark tornado talk makes me very nervous….
Looks like Indiana may be in the cross hairs on Sunday..
Forget the snow chances now, models have significantly trended warmer and warmer. Were barley going to go below freezing behind this front. Main story will be severe weather potential. The SPC has placed all of Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, and Ohio in a slight risk. It even extends all the way to central Michigan and down to central Mississippi.
