Good Tuesday, everyone. We have some tranquil weather rolling into town for the next couple of days and that’s just what the weather doctor ordered after this past weekend. Speaking of the weekend… the one ahead of us will take on a MUCH different look than what we just had. Arctic air is poised to move our way.
Temps today will be in the 40s under mostly sunny skies. We hit the 20s early Wednesday before recovering into the low and mid 50s.
Things begin to change on Thursday as moisture increases from the west and southwest. This will likely bring clouds and a couple of showers our way.
Rain will really increase on Friday as an arctic front nears the region from the west. Many of the models are speeding up the arrival of this front, with the GFS bringing it through here Friday night…
The air behind this is frigid. Check out how far below normal the GFS is showing the afternoon numbers…
Highs in the 30s on Saturday may turn into upper 20s for Sunday. Lows dropping into the teens for Sunday and Monday looks likely.
Can we squeeze out a few flakes behind the arctic front? That’s A possibility and it’s also possible to get a few flakes from the Lakes. The Canadian model shows this…
The cold weather will continue into Thanksgiving week and we will watch a couple of systems trying to sneak underneath the cold. One of them may develop into a big winter system across the eastern half of the country.
I will have another update later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Black Friday campers and lurkers might need to wear an extra layer. I think I will have a coffee & hot chocolate cart for the crowd at Best Buy at Hamburg. $5 a cup too steep? 😉 I’ll will get some Starbucks cups. It’s ALL in the branding! 🙂
BubbaG. if you will get the cups, I will come and help you sell it! Then we can both have a Merry Christmas! 😉
Chris: A quick question. Are your forecast temps on WKYT for the “official” Lexington reporting station or for the real weather? In years past, my thermometer at Lawrenceburg has recorded low temps very close to what was recorded at KLEX. Not so this autumn. I’ve had at least four days where our temp is five degrees cooler than what is reported in Lexington. I only ask this because your forecast often (like this morning) comes in cooler than in the official reporting station but comes very close to matching what I record.
Thanks Chris. Looks like winter is about to show up in full force! At least in the cold temps. Yesterday was absolutely beautiful! Today is not looking too bad either. A little bit cooler, but overall, not bad. Just as long as it is nice tomorrow.
IF that big winter storm develops over the eastern half of the country, wonder where that will leave Kentucky? probably riding the fence, as usual. But we will see. Have a great Tuesday, everyone. Thanks again, Chris, for all you do.
Been looking at the long range models and all are showing way below normal temps coming in for the next few weeks, they also show dryer than normal for precip chances, hopefully we get atleast one good snow out of this cold stuff?
All this early season cold is great…but at some point the averages are gonna go back the other way. Me personally i’d rather have a seasonably cool Thanksgiving then a “cold as Christmas” December. At this point i’m afraid we’re gonna get all the cold air at a less than festive time, then a balmy ride for ol’ Saint Nick!
I kinda agree with Mr. Fife…Warm Xmas and then a very cold Jan/Feb….That is when we have our winters. To me anything before January is extra. Throw out all the analog years we are just due a cold and snowy winter. If we don’t get it this year then we will be way overdue in 2015.
