Good Monday afternoon everyone and thanks for all you do for the blog. Snow showers and snow squalls have been common across much of the state this morning and those will continue into the afternoon and evening. The snow is going along with arctic temps that have us in the deep freeze. Oh yeah… make sure you read this entire post.

The NWS in Jackson has been downplaying the upslope flow for their forecast area for many days now. Well… they are now on board to what we have been telling the folks across southeastern Kentucky… a few to several inches of snow will fall through Tuesday. For this reason… a Winter Weather Advisory is now out for southeastern parts of the state…

A lot of those areas have already picked up a fresh inch or two of snow since Sunday morning. Another 1″-3″ will fall with amounts a little greater than that in the highest elevations.

Any one area across the state can get in on a quick half to one inch of snow through Tuesday as snow showers and squalls will continue. You can track them here…

Remember… snows don’t show up on radar very well to begin with… especially the low moisture content flakes we have out there now.

Temps are the other big story as a lot of areas struggle to get out of the teens this afternoon. Combine gusty winds and it will feel close to ZERO at times.

As we look toward the weekend… there will be a major winter storm take aim at our region from Saturday through Monday. I am growing more and more confident of a storm that can deliver a wintry mix to possible heavy snow and wind. There is an increasing chance the blog may go into the first Winter Storm Threat mode of the season very soon. Behind this storm may come a major blast of arctic air that could make today look mild.

I will have more updates as needed so check back. Have a great Monday and take care.
