UPDATE
I just had to wait for the European Model to come in before hitting the bed. This is another wicked run with a nasty mess Tuesday day with wind driven snow late Tuesday into early Wednesday. Here’s the snow map from the Euro…
Ok… this time I mean it. I’m going to bed. See you later today.
PREVIOUS UPDATE POSTED 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE ONE ABOVE
Good Sunday, my frozen friends. Talk about a taste of some wicked cold temps… we have it. The arctic front blew into town Saturday evening with lake effect snow showers and flurries and wind chills close to 10 degrees. Think about that sentence for a second and take a look at your calendar. Impressive!
The cold continues today with readings struggling to get to the freezing mark. Gusty winds will make it feel much colder and a few snow flurries may flutter by.
All eyes continue to focus on the developing winter storm in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. Today will be a very important day for this storm as I suspect we see the computer models converge on a solution at some point. The GFS is slowly going back to the way of the rest of the modeling world. Shocker!
Since I will be updating several times today… I won’t ramble on too much with this post. Well… no more than usual. 🙂
The Canadian continues to be steady as a rock with how it handles this storm…
That particular run is even stronger with the storm and would produce a ton of wind around here as another round of arctic cold dives in behind it on Wednesday. It actually shows snow showers and squalls into Thanksgiving morning.
The Canadian snowfall map through Wednesday…
The guys and gals from the Weather Prediction Center (think of the Storm Prediction Center for severe weather) have our region in a slight risk for 4″+ snows on Tuesday…
I think we need to keep a close eye on the potential for a wintry mix at the start of this system on Tuesday… especially in the southeast. There is some indication that freezing rain could be an issue for a while.
Exactly how much of an impact this storm has on where you live is still uncertain, but it is likely to have some kind of impact. Will it be minimal or something more? That’s the question I will tackle with updates later today.
Have a good one and take care.
Weeeeeee rain
My prediction….light rain. 34 – 37 degrees. Another model bust as usual. Fantasy winter junk as usual.
is the Toronto Mayor operating the Canadian model. the state has been snakebitten for so long, can this dubious model actually hold it together. if it does it will be one of the greatest upsets in model forecasting history.
Blame it on Canada.
It is just November, so whatever snow is a bonus for snow fans. Whatever happens, a cold night for Black Friday campers seems a lock.
Another big hit from the Nam…Looks like pikeville gets clobbered..Oh if it were only tuesday…
At least with whatever snow we get (if any) the ground temps will have a better chance of hanging on to it than the last time.
Tbe mets forecast 3 inches of snow in the middle of july and we got 1/2 of an inch.. You people would whine and say winters abust, and blame to so called dome…
no! we would say summer was a bust.
Don’t disrespect the power of the dome.
Oh yes. I agree. PLEASE don’t disparage the Dome. We don’t want it to get angry and be even more anti-snow than it already is. Repeat after me…’the Dome is good. The Dome is wise, Long live the Dome.’
Anyone care to post a snowfall map from the NAM. I’m stuck at work, and need some visual candy.
Agree that any accumulating snow before Thanksgiving is a big bonus! Will believe it when I see it, however.
12z Nam looks really good for East and Southeast KY 🙂
Sunny skies or rain?
Better get UR popcorn ready!!!!! Looks like a decent event as far as early as it is!!!!!!!!
3-6 inches big/huge event dis time yeeeear
Rolo, sheww, this aint big school son.
Oh what I would give to wake up tomorrow and the highs would be in the 80s! The only snow I want to see would be on a postcard. I would be living in Florida right now, but I can’t afford a divorce.
Well it sure is cold.My sister in Law in Las Cruses NM got snow today that covered the Ground, and she is only a few minutes to the Mexican Border.I just wonder why we can’t seem to get the snow when they can.Is it our location?I would really love for someone to do a study about Ky and the lack of snow.Well here is hoping for a luck to change this year. Thanks Chris for all you do.
