Good Monday evening, gang. Round one of our winter storm is overspreading the state from west to east this evening. Parts of western Kentucky have picked up a half inch of snow from this mess and accumulations of a half to one inch will be possible in many areas.
That will mainly be on grassy and elevated surfaces, but is something to keep a eye on as temps drop toward freezing or a bit below. Here’s regional radar…

I have no changes to my thoughts on where we go from here over the next few days. The latest forecast from the NAM backs me up…
Nice virga storm were getting in Louisville
you have to laugh out loud prelude.. now get ready for the dry slot moving into the metro area. it is going to be another long snowless winter. if we get over an inch through Wednesday I will be shocked.
I’ll be shocked to get a dusting
Come on let it snow, let it snow!
I would think the NWS would at least put out an advisory. If the snow map verifies, Lexington and east could be under a WSW.
Getting the NWS in Jackson to to even acknowledge a potential Winter Storm is like pulling teeth. They “might” Issue an “advisory” after 4 plus inches have already fallen. (exactly what happened last year here in Middlesboro When the roads were so bad that traffic couldn’t even make it into the Cumberland Gap Tunnel with 5″ on the ground). Even the NWS in Morristown, TN will issue a watch or warning if the is potential for a few inches of winter precipitation. Mets in Jackson aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed….
I have the same feelings about the NWS in Charleston, WV. I emailed them a few minutes ago and gave them what for! I’m a meteorology student so maybe they’ll listen, or not!!! Probably NOT!
AND THE DOME LIVES!!!!! I mean c’mon, look at the radar and a doughnut hole in louisville metro!!!!! http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?product=N0R&rid=LVX&loop=yes
Scratch that, there’s actually a doughnut hole OVER the almighty dome, 2 against none = no snow.
You didn’t really expect different did you? At least we didn’t have the dome this summer when it came to rain. We did pretty good this year with rain.
Pouring the snow In White Oak Kentucky !
Yes!!
The snow is a no show in central KY, same for the Cats in 1 st half?
A snow show just formed here in Lex, yay!
Come on guys. An hour ago the humidity level was at 38%. It is just now high enough to support moisture at the surface levels. It’s snowing (albeit lightly) in Eastern Jefferson Co. KY.
But there doesn’t look to be a good slug of moisture at all for Lexington and north (at least for this first round)
Still nothing falling in Shelbyville. Louisville stations are expecting very little out of this system and the system tomorrow night.
It’s snowing in Lex.
Don’t doubt the dome! It’s alive & well in Shelbyville.
Snow here in Berea…..bring on the snow…..keep it coming
its a nice covering here in south Berea and the town square looks so festive.
The dome central is still Frankfort, a few flurries here and heavy snow in Lex!
IBIWISI
Freezing rain now being reported in the Tennessee Plateau, including Crossville TN. Heads up south-central Kentucky counties along the TN line.
Rain now in Knox County
Is Louisville even in Kentucky, it is just starting to snow in Pike County, must be where we are closer to North Carolina.
Freezing rain here in Laurel County temp at 32 and holding. When the snow was really coming down our local airport temp was at 33 weather is a very strange creature that warm air must be creeping in.
Only 48 percent humidity and 37 degrees in Northern Woodford County — no snow on the donkeys yet!
the NWS says it all, no watches or advisories says somebody going have EGGON THEIR FACE..
Bowling Green the “sweet spot” today with 1.1 inches–largest November snow there since 1977.
Since I moved back to Lawrenceburg in 2009 our largest snows–each about 5 inches each, have come from clippers. Since this is not a clipper, I’m not expecting much
now u start to look SOUTWEST and see if we get the change over back to snow by 4-6 tommnite.
We got some pretty good snow for a while in Somerset. Now we have a sleet/ rain mix. Hopefully, tomorrow evening we will see some more good snow. One can hope……..waiting to see what Chris says in the morning.
look at the moisture S AND SOUTHWETS not going be a problem, but will the cold air catch the moisture, NWS saying NO BAILEY saying yes and the models..
weird situation to say least how model showing snow but NWS says nothing to see here.
that’s because the NWS folks have to look out their windows to know what is happening
light snow here in Knott county
Nothing in Fleming Co.
Second “deck-duster” of the year here in Lawrenceburg. 36 degrees currently
Same here in Frankfort, nice looking flakes but temps at 34 not going to amount to much!
Right now just Rain in Pikeville.
I really wish Chris would lead the next update with my old favorite, ” The NAM says BAM”
I think of that every time he mentions the NAM
uh oh. Chris says some issues (although he says they are common) with the latest GFS. Are corrections next? Are our dreams in danger of being smashed? I’m going to bed so I don’t jinx the forecast.
I would tend to think the NAM is managing this storm much better. don’t get to worried!
Remember IBIWISI? Well, I saw 1/4″ on my deck. I believe that… is about it.
Starting to see ground cover in Berea !!!!!!
***IBIWISI ……………..*****same old song and dance*****
If I read those two things above one more time, I’m going to poke my eyes out with toothpicks.
