Good Thursday and Happy Thanksgiving. We have a frigid turkey day in progress across the bluegrass state as our cold month rolls on. Speaking of cold… December looks to offer some wicked arctic attacks as this winter threatens to go in the tank.
After further review on the snow of the past few days… the forecast didn’t turn out as bad as I thought. The early morning snow in the east and the big time snow squalls certainly helped out my average. Thanks, Lake Michigan. 🙂 Still… there’s work to be done.
Today will feature temps in the teens to start and and low and mid 30s to end. Sunny skies will be noted. Black Friday shoppers have to endure teens to start and upper 30s to near 40 to end as we keep the sun.
Saturday looks good with highs well into the 40s. A weak cold front settles in here on Sunday and will bring a sneaky cold air mass into early next week. That’s when we watch a system roll just to our south by late Monday and Tuesday. That may throw a bit of a mix of light rain or light snow in here. The European Model shows what I’m talking about…
The potential is there for a bigger system to crank along the east coast as a nice little trough digs in…
Once that gets out of the way… things start to get interesting with a MAJOR arctic outbreak diving into the plains and western half of the country by the end of next week. That means our temps should moderate for a day or two before plunging behind the arctic boundary…
The pattern I see setting up is likely to feature a significant winter storm system developing and impacting the weather around here and most of the eastern half of the country. When does that happen? Probably before mid-month.
Signs of a brutal winter for the country are showing up. I’ve privately been telling people I work with that December MAY bring subzero temps our way at some point. I guess that’s not so private now. That’s just how much I like you guys. 😉
Have a great day and take care.
Chris thanks for keeping us updated. I love this weather. It’s been a long time since we had a real winter. Maybe this will be one, snow at Thanksgiving is a good sign of a real winter coming. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Happy Thansgiving. Better to feast on turkey rather than having to eat crow! LOL
Brr. Don’t like the brutally cold temps. Maybe a day of 60’s can be thrown in to help us out a little 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
About that sub zero thing…can we not? That’s too cold to snow and would put us under a dome of high pressure, which sends big storms south of us. At any rate, we have been looking for an eventful winter, so here we go. Happy Thanksgiving!
Yeah, it needs to be cold enough to snow but not too cold. We need some “good old days” snow storms this year! Please! 🙂
It has been a few years since the real cold air has smacked this region.
Happy Thanksgiving!
For folks joining me in the line tonight at Best Buy in Hamburg- We might want to all snuggle up!
Hey BubbaG, if you had to predict this upcoming winter with a sentence or two, what would it be? Example: this winter will be snowy, but not cold, or dry, whatever. Just curious.
Cold Dry-ish
Happy Thanksgiving to all of Bailey’s Bloggers! And Thanks, Chris for that bit of winter foresight! Sounds interesting.
Happy Thanksgiving Chris to you and your family. You couldn’t get me to spend the night in the cold if they were giving me a TV for free.
I’m not leaving the house other than to go for my daily jog from now till Monday. Everyone who is out and about–enjoy the madness and bundle up!
Happy Thanksgiving to all! Never thought I’d see a white Thanksgiving around here.
It is rare. Lexington officially had a “trace” of snow on the ground at 7:00 this morning. This is the first Thanksgiving Day with a trace of snow on the ground since 1989. Before that you have to go back to 1972. Last time there was measurable snow on the ground was 1938.
maybe Santa will ride a Clipper this year.
Below 0 temps and bare ground will be a bad thing but I don’t think we will have below 0 with bare ground its hard to do that around here.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Happy Turkey Day Chris and blogger family, This is the coldest Thanksgiving I can remember, this already has the fill of the late 70s winters, we all better not over shop this year sounds we will need extra money for heating bills this winter!
We got down to 12*F last night. Still have a couple inches of snow in the shade.
