Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Yes, it’s a holiday, but the weather never stops and neither do I. 🙂 My last post touched on where I think the pattern is heading as we roll into December. It looks like the GFS may have been reading it.
Of course, it’s going to work out EXACTLY like that… right? 😉
Happy Thanksgiving and take care.
Thanks for posting the update, Chris. Weather it works out or not, will be fun to watch.
Mostly rain again? Maybe with more snow this time buut we are 7+ days out
That storm the GFS is showing for the 11th would be a monster. Followed by zero or sub zero temps. We will take it. Where do I sign?
Well, if you like abnormally cold weather, this Thanksgiving goes down in the books.
The official low of 15–coldest Thanksgiving morning since also recording 15 in 1938. Last time it was colder–3 above in 1930.
The high of 36–Coldest since 33 in 2002. Only three days in the past fifty years have featured cooler highs.
The trace of snow on the ground–first since 1989.
Just for fun…the winter of 1930-1931 was mild with little snow.
The winter of 1989-1990 was mild overall with average snow. December was brutally cold though and then January and February were extremely warm.
The winter of 2002-2003 was the 2nd coldest since the 70’s and snowy.
we were 4 degrees below record low that goes back to 1952
that should have said 4 degrees away. lol sorry our record low was 13 and the mesonet site registered 17 today
And then to touch on Chris’ talk of sub-zero temps…here are the last time we have reached certain temperatures.
0: -2 on January 22, 2011
-3: on January 16, 2009
-6: on January 31, 2004
-7 on January 27, 2003
-10 on February 4, 1996
-20 on January 19, 1994
In the 90’s we saw 4 days of -10 or lower
In the 80’s we saw 10 days of -10 or lower
In the 70’s we saw 3 days of -10 or lower
And now we haven’t seen once since 1996. We are due.
Yea – BUT……..who knows if those #’s are even accurate?……especially since the readings at BGA is questionable
The one thing this season does have going for it so far seems to be the consistency of the cold temps, to me the last several years were not able to consistently keep below freezing temps. To me if temps stay cold we will likely see some snow this year.snow in my yard at Thanksgiving does give me hope.
“Of course, it’s going to work out EXACTLY like that… right?”
Absolutely. Has to be a first time for everything. Have the models ever been exact from more than a day out. I think in all the time I have read here it seems that, at least for the GFS, things are not so good. Even from 2-3 days out. This is why I respect what is done by Meteorologists. Seems like a fun, exciting, and challenging job.
Pattern looks ripe for a good ole ice storm IMO…West looks really cold with cold air bleeding east..A Recipe for something we don’t want..
This
So, from a teacher’s point of view, this coming week will be the last full week of school until sometime in February, right? As long as we can have snow on the ground Christmas morning as we did today, all is well.
Happy Thanksgiving Chris and everyone at The Blog.
Looks like some interesting times ahead!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Well, here we go again. The models show something a week or so away. That has happened sooooo many times over the years. They have not panned out in my 9 years here. How do they always get on the same side of wrong time after time after time. I have never seen a snow model show less than we get, not once in 9 years. IBIWISI
