Good Black Friday to one and all. Holiday shoppers are doing their thing today and are facing another frigid one across the bluegrass state. This has been a common theme of the fall and one I fully expect to continue into the winter months.
Highs today will range from the upper 30s to low 40s under a mostly sunny sky. Saturday looks even better with readings well into the 40s with a mix of sun and clouds. Those clouds will continue to thicken up on Sunday and a late day shower will be possible as a weak front drops in.
The jet stream takes a little dip into the Tennessee Valley by Monday and that allows for temps to drop even more. Light rain will be around the region and it may be just cold enough for a bit of a mix. Here’s the GFS…
Monday’s highs may struggle to get out of the mid and upper 30s in that type of a setup.
Thermometers will eventually come up some as we head into the middle of next week. The setup will feature a bit of ridging across the southeastern states as arctic air dives into the plains and west. This is likely to crank out a big storm system in between and throw rain our way by Wednesday night and Thursday.
That will push a arctic boundary across the state by the end of next week. This system is likely to stall out just to our south next weekend as it runs into a ridge well off the southeast coast…
The area I’ve outlined may be a prime zone for significant overrunning winter precipitation from next weekend into the following week. This is a pretty strong signal for this type of a pattern setting up shop. The Canadian shows this as well…
Man… that’s a ton of brutal cold settling into the country during that time.
Have a great Friday and take care.
“significant overrunning winter precipitation”….Like i mention last night a pattern for a Major ice storm…00z run last night had some Southeastern states with over 1.5 QPF of Freezing rain…Its in Fantasy land so hopefully it won’t happen..
Ugh! The southeastern states can keep that stuff. A lot of us in central Kentucky still have bad memories of February 2003.
Hope everybody had a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
If the Southeast Ridge shows up and hangs out the GFS model from last night could be a nice apps runner for most of Kentucky. I know we are two weeks out but also overdue for cold and snow. Will be fun to watch. Lets hope the ridge can set up and stick around for a few weeks. I’m dreaming of a white B-DAY…Dec. 12th. then it gets frigid cold and the snow hangs throughout Dec. What the heck. Would love to see it hang around all winter. Now thats a DREAM…. Have a great day everyone. Thanks CHRIS….
Warning: Boring weather week ahead….get your house ready…then we’ll have some real winter fun.
it is always wait till next week that phrase simplifies the winter months
The models were way less than impressive with this last snow system so a week away I’m not even going to start to say what may happen! Looks like warmer weather for sure the next several days.

We have heard this before… IBIWISI
This is getting old very quickly.
No disrespect intended or implied. I have just never seen the models pan out, ever. I have seen the models be wrong on the heavy side again and again and again. I don’t see how they can be wrong the same way system and after system, year after year after year and not be self correcting. Do the modelers not take that into consideration? What do I not see? What am I not getting?
