Good Monday evening gang and thanks for dropping by the blog. We have a lot of weather to go through over the next few days. It is all starting right now as rain moves in from the west and southwest. This will lead to some heavy rainfall over the next 24-30 hours for much of the state…. especially across the east. Some rumbles of thunder will also be possible.
Track the rains here…
A general 1″-2″ of rain will be common across the state with southeastern Kentucky seeing close to 3″ in some spots. For that reason… A FLOOD WATCH is now out for some counties…
Winds will also be a big factor the next few days. Gusts map approach 40mph across the eastern half of the state as a strong cold front blasts through late Tuesday.
The cold air will catch up to the back edge of the rain and briefly switch it over to a period of snow.. especially in the east Tuesday night. Wrap around snow showers and flurries would then move in for central and eastern Kentucky for Wednesday. Local coatings to an inch can’t be ruled out during this time.
Temps will be near freezing for highs and winds will make it feel like low and mid 20s.
Other quick thoughts…
– I still like a period of light snow and flurries late Thursday into early Friday.
– The weekend system is looking interesting. Low pressure will dive southeastward into the lower Ohio Valley Saturday. This is likely to bring some overrunning mixed precipitation with it late Friday night and early Saturday. This should change to rain for a bit Saturday… especially in the south. As the low moves off to our east a rapid change to light snow should occur Saturday evening with that continuing into Sunday. This can lay down some accumulating snows across much of the state. All models not named GFS have shown this possibility for a while now.
– A blast of cold air will move in behind this system for Sunday and Monday. (Not that it isn’t cold ahead of it)
– Temps from Wednesday into the weekend may not get out of the 30s for highs for many areas.
– Next week is loaded with potential for snow and even a shot of frigid temps.
I will have a full update later tonight so check back.
Take care.

Thanks for the evening update chris!
I guess its time to get the ARK outta storage, and maybe install some runners on it for the tail end snow…lol..
Chris,
I love the tone that you use when talking about winter weather. It’s like you’re telling a story and I’m right on the edge of my seat waiting for the next part. December is such a great month. Christmas, snow, cold and my b-day. What a great month. BTW, hope you are feeling better. I’m sure these coming snow chances will make you feel a little better. 🙂
Is the ground cold enough for snow to stick yet?
Wow, I can’t believe Yazoo City, MS is getting hit AGAIN. That’s two twisters just this year alone…
Wow, they are getting their share of twisters for sure. I feel sorry for them.
