Top of the afternoon. I wanted to make sure to continue to highlight the additional flood threat across southeastern Kentucky over the next few days. Another 1″-2″ of rain may fall through Tuesday in areas that can’t hold any more water.
That would be more than enough to cause more high water issues. The bigger threat may transition to such rivers as the Cumberland, Big Sandy, Licking, Kentucky and Red.
The Winter Weather Advisory has been expanded to include all of western Kentucky for tonight into Sunday…
Poor northeastern Kentucky continues to be ignored by the NWS in Charleston. It’s become a tradition. 🙂
The latest Hi-Res Nam is liking the freezing rain potential early Sunday…
when you see the forecast precipitation from the NAM model divide that by 33.3 percent that will probably be the actual total. it is shame what has happened to that model it used to be somewhat reliable.
I would rather be ignored by NWS than Old Man Winter
Just have to ask so I can scope it out, anyone have a small size sledding hill in christian co or surrounding area? Preferably one you can drive to of course lol. This is just in case we actually get some, of course, however last decent snow I had to drag my granson down the road to get any slope! TIA
Just glad it was not this cold yesterday, since ice would have been brutal. I have no illusions that what would have fell yesterday would have been snow, for us south of the river.
if it had been this cold and all would have been snow for US we would have had around 40-50 inches of snow depending on the ratio
40-50 inches would be amazing. I know it would not be good in some ways but still amazing. Would love it myself.
Those of us in the NWS Charleston area are just getting used to being ignored. I use the Jackson and Wilmington office watches/warnings and adjust to get an idea of what we are getting. Thanks for your hard work. We appreciate you.
It’s sad, WV gets 2x the snow and half the warnings.
I found this creepy looking pic of Lexington from Christmas 1890.
If you want to see it, go to google images and search lexington christmas ice storm 1890
Wow–the rest of the pictures on that page are awesome as well. Thanks for sharing! I moved to this area in the early 90’s–interesting to see how Lexington looked so many years ago.
Chris, any thoughts on the Monday night wave please? Maybe a shot at a few inches of snow?
Marklex. I just checked it out. Looks likessomething in a bad dream. Very creepy indeed.
Not even the mountains of WV got snow from this last storm. As for the NWS Charleston this is normal for their coverage of NEKY. They do this with spring and summer storms as well. I can remember getting calls at my former work from them wanting to know conditions at my location and they would then immediately issue a warning for our neighborings WV counties but still nothing for our area. I so wish we could be covered by NWS Jackson or NWS Wilmington.
Radar starting to light up over Arkansas with pink.
Thanks Chris. Looks like we add in for more fun overnight. Only this time it looks like southern Ky gets in on the ice before a change to cold rain. Like everyone else, I would love to see us all get a good snow. At some point, we will. Cycles come and go and we are going into a colder one. As for the storm of yesterday, I am glad the moisture got gone before the temp dropped too low. We fortunately missed out on the ice. We are, however, water logged, so I wouldn’t mind if this one was an underachiever on the rain side.
Cold rain & that’s it. Next week….cold rain. Next weekend….cold rain.
That reminds me of a skit from Monty Python: Spam, Spam Spam and more Spam!
