ood evening, gang. Another day of significant winter weather is in the books here in the bluegrass state. A nasty ice event played out in many areas, and a thumping snow hit parts of the area. Now what?
Temps continue to hover around 32 degrees from the Lexington metro and points north and west. We continue to see patchy drizzle and freezing drizzle in these areas. The next slug of moisture is working in from the south, but the heaviest of that will be in the east and southeast where temps are well above freezing.
Some of that will creep into central parts of the state and some light icing will be possible tonight into Monday morning. Track it…

Current temperatures

Norther parts of the state may not get above freezing at all tonight or Monday. Untreated roads will continue to pose a problem.
Southeastern Kentucky has a night of heavy rain ahead and that may cause additional high water problems. Please keep a close eye out on water levels in these areas through Monday.
Another wave will work into the region late Monday night and early. Light snow is likely for much of the state and we could be talking about some light accumulations. Southeastern Kentucky has a chance to end this whole thing with a few inches of snow on the ground. I will have much more on that potential later tonight.
Arctic shot moves in by the middle of the week and may throw some flurries into the mix. That sets the stage for a system to roll eastward to our south by the weekend. The GFS is not to be trusted in this type of a setup from this far out. The European Model continues to show the potential for a period of snow from this…
It’s what may come in behind this for next week that is already getting my attention. I will share that with you later tonight.
Take care.
I hope we get snow for Christmas!!
Appreciate your work Chris, but do you sleep in winter? *grin*
I hope that system does not go too far south this coming weekend. the GFS on the 12 z run had the rain snow line near the Great Lakes. maybe the euro and the GFS will split the difference and Kentucky will benefit.RIGHT!
Lets hope it stays far far away so the folks dealing with high water can catxh a break
Thanks for all you do Chris. I live around a bunch of white pine trees here in Waynesburg. One big branch came crashing on my house today. Thank goodness no significant damage was done. Looking forward to the snow potential Monday night. Maybe a snow day????
Chris are you hinting at a white Christmas?
Hmmm, if so, will it be a relatively gentle white Xmas like in 2010? True, Nashville, Huntsville and even Auburn AL got a white Christmas along with much of Kentucky. But it was generally far more pretty than it was hindering and it brought some joy to even this warm wx fan 🙂 .
Or will it be a more furious white Xmas like back in 1989? I was about six years old, but I have vague memories of people being snowbound in frigid cold, homes with frozen pipes.
Suppose time will tell 😉 .
Weekend event looks mainly south of KY, but systems seem to be throwing precip more north than models predict so maybe KY will end up on the sweet spot. 🙂
Looking forward to your update later this evening, Chris. Ignore the naysayers; you’re the best and most reliable met!
fog developing in Louisville
I wonder if it’s *really* 2 degrees warmer at the airport than it is behind Fayette Mall…..
I love this site and the work you do Chris. And I love the comments section as well. So, I have to say: “Give me a G and would like to solve the puzzle.” “Good evening, gang.” Honestly have not watched Wheel of Fortune since I was young and my parents put that show on every night. Odd it just popped in my head.
*Disclaimer: This is what I say in case it changes: “ood evening, gang.”
If the weekend storm ends up with more flooding rain for us, we’d much rather just dry out and see some sun for a bit. Lots of sun or lots of snow!
Chris seems to like the new NAM run showing light snow possibility tomorrow night. I’m starving for more info! Guess I’ll have to wait until morning to read the blog update.
Looks like a chance of snow tomorrow. What does the new model runs show?
Thanks for the work you do, Chris! I am looking forward to hearing about snow potential for tomorrow night. I know it is early December, but I’m snow-starved!
Temp up to 33 in east frankfort, I guess some thawing should be happening, hopefully plain old snow to come?
