Good Tuesday to one and all. We have a super-duper fast moving light snow event scooting across the state early today. This bad boy will be in and out of the state in a 6-8 hour window and that’s being generous. The target area still appears to be snow starved southern and southeastern Kentucky.
I have no real changes to the forecast I put out Monday evening. Areas from the Bluegrass Parkway into the Lexington region may be the areas on the short end of the snow stick. Parts of northern Kentucky could see around an inch. Much of eastern and southeastern Kentucky will likely pick up 1″-4″ of the white stuff. Higher amounts will be noted in the highest mountains.
Like all events… a sharp cutoff to the REAL accumulating snow will be noted on the western side of the main shield. Exactly where that is remains to be seen, but it may get close to the bluegrass region of central Kentucky.
Before I get to a look ahead, let’s track the early day stuff…

After this stuff moves away we turn our attention toward an arctic front arriving in late Wednesday. This will make for a very cold an windy Thursday. Look at the lows on the GFS…
Highs only reach 20-25 degrees under a partly sunny sky.
The next storm system roll in by Friday night into the weekend. This one continues to take on a colder look. The GFS shows a mix to start and quite a bit of snow shower and squall action after the system passes…
The Canadian Model is even colder, but also shows a wicked squall outbreak Saturday night through Sunday night…
Sunday may be a very nasty day with blinding snow squalls, 30mph wind gusts, temps around 20 degrees with wind chills near 0.
Another winter system arrives a few days after that by the middle of next week. The hits keep on coming.
Have a great day and take care.
Virga show on that radar, deck duster might not happen!
Light snow now falling in Eastern Laurel County. Showing 32 on the therm. Come on snow getter done.
Moderate snow coming down in Laurel County, but considering how fast this storm is moving through, I doubt we will get much more than an inch. Roads are white, though, which will likely make kids and teachers happy in a couple of hours. Looking forward to a deep snow some time this season. Be safe out there.
Nothing in west Morehead. May be a school day unless something falls quickly. Radar looks nasty…
Well I can’t say im totally surprised 🙁
Not a flake.

😉
About 1.5″ here is Southern Breathitt. Looks like a huge dry slot has formed that stretches from Breathitt Co all the way back to west og Bowling Green. This will cut into the totals greatly.
0 inches in Richmond — 0 this time and last time. Brings our yearly total to … 1/4 inches!
Yet they canceled school in Madison that might get flurries and a coating. Nothing on the ground and cancel school. You would think they learned from the last time they did that.
At least we are consistent. It misses us, regardless of direction. Winning!
Missed here to Bubba
Louisville snow covered roads around an inch is likely real bad timing on this rush hour traffic will be a nightmare. Parts of southern Indiana where areas have six plus inches got 2 to 3 more inches last night.
We got snow I can’t believe it I love it!!!!!!!!!!
ok, i’m trying to understand his forecast for this weekend …. his last sentence says “Sunday may be a very nasty day with blinding snow squalls, 30mph wind gusts, temps around 20 degrees with wind chills near 0” …………. would someone tell me where this info comes from ? Even the wkyt app (who employs him) does not mention anything. I hope everyone who sees this writes it down on the calendar that this was forecasted.
BTW, hwy 80 coming from somerset to London is very slick, not even been touched yet ….. drivers don’t even know where the center line is.
The blog is not a forecast. These are his thoughts. I read this for that. If you want the forecast, turn on the tube.
Have to say that if you want a forecast that is rarely accurate, go to weather.com. It will say “expect dry conditions for the next six house”, then I start out on a 5-6 mile walk w/o my umbrella and I’m wet within 20 mins. of leaving home! Love the Blog or leave it!
Since I write the blog, I would say there’s a good chance it comes from me. 😉
LOL!
Atta boy Chris!
I agree 100%…. and he is doing this on his time!! For the genuine love for weather…
Nice little “surprise” snow this morning in Lawrenceburg. Looks to come down for a few more hours.
This will be the fifth deck duster of the winter. Still awaiting “clipper mania” to get those nicer snowfalls.
Love how people try to bash CB. This guy does this for free!! He does not make the weather he tries to forcast it. Snow is one of the most difficult things to forcast. Give the guy a break.
Not much here just north of Someset. Coating maybe.
23 & snowing in Lexington this morning at 8 am……:)
I can’t get over how many events we have had so far and we’re barely into winter. It has been cold!
… amazing how local this is and isn’t… 1/4 of an inch total in Richmond so far this season…
Same here in Lawrenceburg. Fifth accumulating snow of the season so far. Maybe total of 3 inches, but still–a fast start.
0.6″ in Valley Station; low-end storm but high-impact event
JCPS closed; numerous accidents on interstates according to media
Plain and simple, bad timing. This type of snow with this much accumulation is the worst kind to drive on besides ice.
Not one flake in Greenup County KY! Oh well. We still have snow on the ground. This is a great winter so far! Love the snow! Thanks Chris for keeping us informed! Have a great day!
Now this is somewhat ironic. They cancelled school here yesterday with a little slush on the roads. Roads are covered, it is snowing hard, and now a winter weather advisory was issued and because it was not forecast they had school. Certainly a surprise snowfall. Looks like will end up with at least an inch or maybe two.
CB, that advisory map proved pretty darn accurate. The fence held up. Madison did it again. Cancel school for nothing. Same thing happened about 13 years ago. Winning! Good luck getting that government money. They have the NWS map from today to reference.
