Good Tuesday afternoon. I had planned on a greater update, but my ping pong ball came up at work. That means your friendly weatherdude has a date with a random cup before work. TMI? 🙂 We’re all one big happy family around here.
Let’s hit the headlines…
– A frigid night is ahead of us with temps in the teens.
– Arctic front arrives late Wednesday and may have a narrow band of light snow and flurries. The air behind this will take some areas into the single digits by Thursday morning. Highs Thursday will stay in the 20-25 degree range for many.
– The storm system for the weekend arrives late Friday. The models continue with a colder look as they figure out this is arctic air the system is moving into. That air doesn’t get pushed around very easily.
– Snow or a mix may develop late Friday into Friday night… go over to a cold rain Saturday… then back to some snow Saturday night.
– Sunday continues to look nasty with snow showers and squalls, winds nearing 30mph at times, temps around 20 and a wind chill closer to 0.
– More single digits are possible by Monday and Tuesday.
– The next system dives in by the middle of next week with another round of winter.
Ok… that’s all you get for now. I will have another update later today. Time for me to go down a gallon of water. Take care.
All I care about atm, is that the sun is shining here and there is no rain falling. This makes for a great day!
LOL. Have fun, CB and thanks for the update.
Now we know why the NWS had a gap in the WWA. Snow band completely fizzled right at the counties that they had not included in the Advisory. Was amazing to watch the radar and see the band dissolve. Frustrating as well! 🙂
TWC winter weather guy just showed the storm for this weekend as all rain statewide, what model is he looking at??
The Weather Channel model….when have they ever got anything right for Kentucky?? (Heck, we could have an EPIC snowstorm HERE, and they’d still be situated and covering a little 6″ somewhere out in the middle of Ames, Iowa….?!)
they did pretty good with last weekends storm for my area predicted all rain and that’s what we got
BTW, Todd…we had another ‘EPIC’ “toe-biter” here in Bardstown this morning. Just enough for my mutt’s to go outside and track mud inside on the white kitchen floor….so I can mop it every hour. (Debbie don’t like to “mop”..lol!)
If this pattern holds threw Christmas like Chris says I think most if not all of KY gets a moderate to heavy snow, lets just see if that works out or not, northern KY and southern Indiana are the big winners so far!
If winning means taking 3 times as long to commute and tracking ice and salt into your house/office I guess we won. We would gladly give you the snow if we could. It sucks!!!
Maybe the weather models need to pee in a cup and be tested
Hope you feel better Chris!
Thanks for all you do!!!!
Chris feels fine he is just peeing in a cup to make sure he isn’t feeling more than fine LoL
NWS Nashville with snow totals from this morning (click link here).
Looks like some Kentucky counties along the TN line got at least an inch.
It depended where you were in Nashville. I got perhaps a third of an inch at my place, yet other parts of town received a full inch along with perhaps some ice (and some jackknifed tractor trailers on I-65). My work place had about half an inch.
It’s now melting with the sun and warmer temps.
Meanwhile, hundreds in Di*kson County TN (two counties west of Nashville) still remain without power and heat from the half inch plus of ice there a few days ago. I would spell out the full name of the county, but the silly spam filter keeps blocking the post.
be glad u got 2.8 inches as I did this time cause rain all we get this weekend. kinda suprising Bailey didn’t really hype the weekend storm , makes me glad he went conservative.. well done BAILEY.
hey saw BARB BAILEY at Salvation Army kettle Friday, was wonder if u are going be doing it. or have u already??
congrats on your snow rolo
FUI – Forecasting Under the Influence
Not gonna happen with our Chris!!! 🙂
CLAY COUNTY had 1-2 inches for most part. we had 2.8 in Jackson Co where I live now.
You have take a drug test to work at WKYT? That is extremely strange to me.
7.3″ officially for the early winter start in NE Louisville! We only had 11.9″ total last winter.
Things are finally going our way (here in Louisville that is).
yeah Brian goodE believe there will be a good chance of snow this weekend and Tuesday and Wednesday a clipper will dive down to this region.
of course the Clipper as of now is headed towards the Cincinnati area.
The sun has really number a number on the snow/ice here in Lawrenceburg. Only shady spots have any left.
We must have more snow in Frankfort, still a solid inch of ice and snow in all but the sunniest locations.
Once again, Richmond and areas around it got nothing. School did get a bogus off day though that might be hard to get funds for. How many oops! days do they get?
So much promise, so little for results. We must be a low to no snow haven 😉
I’m starting to see a good sign out of the models this year, they start out warm only to cool down as the storms approach, hopefully this continues, see tweet from Chris!
Chris you are a little more conservative on TV than your tweets 🙂
Yea the Euro showed this weekend storm as mostly rain, almost no snow at all. Every run has been trending colder and now the Euro is showing a 75% snow and 25% rain event.
Sadly if trends continue it will be 90% rain and 10 % snow generally
Whatever it is, no need to guess where the rain/frozen stuff fence will be. Around the KY river.
It seems to me the models are overplaying instead of underplaying the cold are as we haven’t had near the snow that they have forecasted.
I think the snow pack in southern Indiana and northern KY is playing a factor on storm tracks and models don’t pick up on snow pack influence very well!
That’s my thinking and my hope but the past few events they have overplayed cold are as very few if any got the amounts the “models” were showing.
As always, snow begets more snow. Feast or famine in that regard.
Hope you studied for your test:)
