Good Friday evening, gang. I have a rare day off work and had totally forgotten about it until this morning… and I’m the one who makes out the schedules. I consider this one of those bonus days. 🙂 Even with the day off, I promised to drop by to update things and that’s what you’re getting.
A mix of rain, sleet and snow is working in from the west and southwest. Even with temps above freezing, we are getting in on a nice mix for many. Why? Because of the dry air in place. Moistening that air up will continue to drop our temps and will lead to a period of slushy snow overnight. The best chance continues to be areas along the Ohio River from Paducah to Covington. This is where a 1″-3″ slushfall will be possible. Farther south toward Interstate 64, minor slushy accumulations will be possible.
Everyone goes to rain on Saturday as temps head into the mid and upper 30s. Light snow and snow showers will take over Saturday night into Sunday morning. Some light accumulations and slick roads will be possible during this time.
Two systems try to dive in from the northwest after that. The first may bring a swath of light snow by Monday morning and the next one arrives later Tuesday and early Wednesday.
Let’s track what’s going on this evening…

Current temperatures

Btw… the colors on the radar won’t match the actual precipitation type in this setup.
Enjoy the evening and take care.
Maybe if the radars updated as per feedback they wouldn’t be incorrect. Hmm? Yeah, it could be possible, if an inexact science. It’s something to look into.
Aggregate Response Radar——ARR!!! lol
You’re welcome, BTW.
are you talking to yourself?
lol
Apparently I am.
I guess we cannot trust anything as far as weather goes we already know the models are useless now the radar cannot be trusted.
ARR could be tested in a few areas; talk about this place being a great one to do it in….
The only thing is this would require a fairly decent amount of manpower to keep up with.
Had 20 minutes of moderate/heavy snow in northwestern KY and then to rain. Big gorgeous flakes were nice while it lasted.
39 in Lawrenceburg. Radar shows precipitation but nothing is falling. Come on rain! Wash away this salt!
Remember folks, in wintertime, yellows and especially oranges on the radar mean sleet or a mixed bag of precip due to the noise of the precipitation falling; unless the yellows and oranges are buried around an area of greens and lighter greens, which most of the time means heavier rain.
In the case of Nelson Co. in this instance, it was in a “leading edge” or “it just got there” type of precipitation. This obviously fell as a mixed bag as evidenced by the radar.
Yeah, Aaron..we left Shep-Ville about 45 min’s ago, and it was snowing heavy wet snow when we came out of “El Nopal”, but by the time we got to the truck, it was raining HARD??! Rain all the way to Bardstown, but we’dhad some ice/sleet, by looking at my car…
I would suspect Louisville will also see a mixed bag of precip within the next hour or so.
We have snow at the moment in Louisville.
Within the past 15-30 minutes, Valley Station had a rain/snow mix with some slush on the windshield. Temps dropped from 38 to 34 degrees in an hour.
38 degree wet snow in frankfort! Strange!
39 in Lawrenceburg with the same thing. Hard to believe after all the 32 degree rain! 🙂
Down to 35 now and a rain/ snow mix, go figure it’s colder and more rain mixes in!
Same here at 35!
Wonderful!!
38 degree snow is good thing. Notwithstanding how COLD it’s been recently. It would make sense……………
pouring the sleet at Clay’s Ferry in Fayette Co
Northern MS likely getting on in heavy sleet at this point in time.
A literal wall of moisture coming in from the SW; if the temps were good, we’d be seeing a good snow right now…
31 here in greenup county..nothing falling yet
If you are 31 in Greenup; you will see a slight warmup; but a potential period of sleet/snow/freezing rain with some very minor accumulations of ice for an hour or two before transitioning to plain rain. Very tricky area.
Temp 33.8 in frankfort, a lull in the precip at the moment, if we can cool a degree or 2 more lookout!
Snowing in Egypt…..,first time in 100 years. That tick y’all off?
http://truthseekerdaily.com/2013/12/snow-in-egypt-for-the-first-time-in-100-years-wpictures/
Not really……..Since it snows here at least more than once every 100 years. LOL
Also seen where it snows their on avg once every 7 to 10 years and usually a dusting!
Normal central KY, the upper atmosphere can produce snow at the moment but its like the moisture is waiting on the warmer air before moving into central KY, crazy ole place we live in, but most of us are unfortunately use to this by now!
Maybe I’m over thinking this thing called weather??
You have to deal with it WEATHER you like it or not. 😉
