Happy Monday. The snow this morning worked out like a charm and produced another snow day for parts of the north and northeast. Think Old Man Winter is just thumbing his nose at the rest of the state? Maybe he doesn’t like negative attitudes. 🙂 I kid, I kid… kind of.
Another weak system dives in on Tuesday. This will be a very windy system that produces another threat for some flakes in the north and far east…
That’s a quick shot of cold coming in behind that for late Tuesday and Tuesday night.
MUCH milder floods in by the end of the week as our windy and ugly weekend system gets ready to do whatever it’s going to do. As I mentioned earlier… heavy rain, thunder and winter will likely be rolled into a 2-3 day period.
More on that coming later today.
Take care.
I see how you put Floods in there 😉
lol. I noticed that too. With all the negative attitude (including mine) Chris still has a sense of humor!
Hoping and praying we get a decent winter storm around here to put some good snow on the ground I want to see a white Christmas finally. Chris your updates are most appreciated you do your job beyond great keep up the good work!!!
Well unless we get one of these in the coming winter’s it’s pretty much gonna suck..IMO..

Thanks, Chris. Just have one question…or comment….please tell me that it is going to be cold for Christmas…I can deal with the no snow (although I hate to) but I don’t want temps to be in the 50s and 60s. Still have to think that we will see a good snow at some point this year. One that gets all of your fellow weather weenies good and white! Have a great Monday, and be safe!
The GFS has a high of 43, and the Euro has a high of 47 for Christmas here in Lex, warmer if you live south.
I agree just let it be cold
All longer range outlooks now trending warmer, not a good sign for the white Christmas possibilities in KY!
If you have relatives north of KY you might want to make plans to visit them at Christmas if you want to see snow!
Hopefully something changes in the next few days that gives us some hope anyway!
Negatives attitudes influencing forecast results…are we interfering with one of your modeling tools? 😉

I’m pretty impressed with this winter so far.I’ve seen snow in November and December which is rare. Cold temps for December which is encouraging, and it has been really wet. All the parts are there just need to get the mixture right. I’m far from a forecaster but the potential is there. Just need to get a + BA (blog atitude) and we should be fine.
Pretty sure Frankfort didn’t recieve a flake last night or this morning, so the charming snow must of been extreme northern KY!
Thought I seen a flake earlier but it was just pidgeons taking a bathroom break.
What is the timeframe for tonight’s system?
Lake Cumberland area in line for t’storms & heavy rain this weekend…..sounds about normal. I was hoping that all those models teasing us with mega cold temperatures for Christmas was right, so now it looks like that’s a bust too. Looks like another swing and a miss 🙁
p.s. of all the Charlie Brown’s in the world…Kentucky Winters may be the Charlie Browniest!
haha now that was funny !!
1/4 inch and counting…
What happened to all the fridged temperatures for Christmas week and after CB? Maybe Blow Torch guy is right. Haven’t heard you say otherwise Chris. Can you please tell us if your thoughts have changed regarding your once fridged and snowy forecast. I know it’s nobodies fault, but this really stinks. Sorry, all I have is sarcasm at this point about our weather. Have a good day CB.
Looks like The Mullet might get the last laugh. Though shall bow before the mighty
Blowtorch! Bring an umbrella.
Well on the bright side we still got January February and the 1st two weeks in March.
As long as they are not like the last two Jan/Feb/March. I have had more snow this Fall than each of the last two winters. Kentucky winters are very frustrating to say the least. Still think odds are we have a cold and snowy winter, but that remains to be seen.
You have to remember Chris did in his winter weather forecast http://www.wkyt.com/home/headlines/Chris-Baileys-Winter-Weather-Forecast-232728561.html say that the cold air would relax for a bit around the middle of the month and would be back in January so this warm up was kind of expected .
This blog is so depressing I want snow for Christmas but I guess we will just have to take what we get Chris thanks for what you do for us Chris I would love to have the old blog back when everybody was on here talking to each other about our snow chances I really don’t understand why some of you are on here blogging because you sure not here for what Chris has to say if this was my blog I give a bunch of you the boot Chris I feel for you I really do……..
I suspect Bailey knows I’m spot on about the upcoming unprecedented blowtorch warmth that is just beginning to fire up. You guys want specifics, here’s my thinking: MUCH above average temperatures until mid February, possible until early spring. Plenty of rain to go around until we get a dry pattern in mid January. Average high temps for Lexington in January will be 57 degrees, with Trace amounts of snow. Jackson, 55 degrees with no snow recorded. London, a balmy daytime average high of 60 with no snow recorded. Will we see a pattern flip in February? I highly doubt it, as all the big dogs I follow on another site are bullish about record off the charts warmth this winter for the southeast.
Last time I checked most of KY is considered the Ohio Valley not the southeast ??
Yeah, I guess we ought to all get our hurricane and tropical weather survival kits ready here in KY. Air conditioners will be mandatory in January. Keep an eye on the young and the elderly.
Someone may be eating a stadium sized bowl of crow come January. But then again, that someone will just disappear back under the bridge.
Nope, I’ll gladly eat crow and I WILL show up to take the heat if I’m wrong and we get the big one in January. But it just won’t happen. NAO positive, as with AO, stubborn southeast ridging. We’ve seen more often than not in the last 15 years, and it’s raised it’s ugly head again. Question is, when I’m near spot on come 1/31, will you guys show up or hide?
It doesn’t take a snowstorm for you to be wrong, just an average, ordinary January. You’re taking a big chance throwing around words like “unprecedented warmth.” During Christmas, 1982, I was in short sleeves. What are you expecting, 80 degrees?
If we get highs in the mid 40s all month with no snow, you’re still wrong. Anyone playing the odds around here should figure we won’t get much snow in January, but we won’t get a blowtorch either. Law of averages will win.
Perhaps the temps are too aggressive, but I feel confident in stating that central and east Kentucky will be snowless for the entire month of January.
sounds like your backing off now
Your prediction would make for a record January in terms of average high temp and lack of snow in Central Kentucky. If it turns out to be true, I’ll give you some major props on 2/1.
I have asked you a few different times for YOUR scientific theory concerning the “blowtorch” warmth that is looming next month. I want your reason, not the so called big dogs reason. You have proved time and time again that you can not back up your claim, so instead you post the same things over again to gain more attention.
we have a big dog. his name is Chris and this is his blog last time I checked.
🙂
Chris please comment on this PLEASE….
The average in January is 40.9, so your saying 57 will be our average, 16 degrees over? If you take the record high everyday in January it averages 70 degrees, only 13 degrees more than what you say the daily average will be. If your right I say change name of blog to Kentucky “Blowtorch” Weather Center. Good luck
“as all the big dogs I follow on another site are bullish about record off the charts warmth this winter for the southeast.”
Not saying they are wrong but then again I had been hearing November and December where going to be much warmer as well.
Thanks CB for the quick update….
Winter has been mentioned above. At least there is still little hope.
This is funny…it snowed in Vietnam.

We WILL NOT get ANY snow with this system later this week into upcoming weekend. The models have now been consistent enough and the GFS, Canadian, and Euro show NO SNOW whatsoever for the next 10 days. All show an average Christmas with highs in the 40’s.
We had about 1″ of snow this morning in Northern Kentucky, we even had some school delays and closings (which I thought was crazy as the roads weren’t that bad).
Many accidents on I-64. LEX 18 had a story about the slick roads in Morehead. It was slick in Eastern Rowan County.
The only white Christmas I think I will see is if I look at myself in the mirror! The few wooly worms I saw this fall had a bigger than normal amount of black on it, but it was brown the rest of the way with a tiny black dot at the end. The squirrels around here all built their nest high in the trees. Myself, I went through the winters in the 70’s that made New Circle Road one lane. I went through the “dusting” in the 90’s that gave us 20 inches of snow and below zero temps. I would love 60’s the rest of the way and come March 70’s and 80’s.
Pat – yes
If anyone remembers the winter of 97/98 was pretty much blowtorch (if you will) with not a flake of snow and not too terribly cold temps. With that one storm, we ended up with 20 inches of snow for the season, and it stayed on the ground quite a white and kept snowing days after the main event. Then again, that was a FREAK storm…So I suppose until something changes in the climate that we will get our snows from clippers OR freak storms

Actually there “Blowtorch” dude the AO is expected to relax after Christmas showing neutral or slightly negative..Also the PNA is expected to go neutral or slightly positive..If we keep the cold on our side of the globe and with these changes were bound to get wintry weather ..Tell that to the big dogs..lol
Has no one else realized that blowtorch guy is a troll.
How so? I’ve been respectful, have not been disrespectful towards CB or any other poster. I am providing a counter point to CB, and yet I’m a troll? Seems like you “Yes” men and women that post on here did the same thing with some of the pro mets that *used* to post here, MJ comes to mind. Whenever MJ dared to counter CB, everyone here took issue. If it suits you guys better, I’ll go along with the consensus-epic snows and bitterly cold arctic blasts until March.
We just want some proof to your warm prediction. If you have some type of crystal ball, I would like to know about it before I order more coal or chop more wood!
He will not give a reason for his thinking, therefore that provides further proof of his prediction having no legs to stand on.
Thanks Chris for all your hard work. I enjoy reading your blog and check several times a day. Hoping for lots of snow this year. Haven’t seen Keavyman posting, anyone know if he’s ok?
