Good afternoon, all. The weekend continues to look wild with an increasing potential for high winds and strong or severe thunderstorms. A deepening area of low pressure will scoot northeastward across the western Ohio Valley late Saturday into early Sunday.

This will set the stage for a possible high wind and strong/severe storm event across much of the region.

The latest GFS is now more in line with the stronger solutions from the European and Canadian models. Here’s a look at the potent system…

GFSThe Storm Prediction Center has already put far western Kentucky in the risk area for Saturday.

SPCThat threat zone will likely be expanded farther northeast for Saturday night and Sunday morning. Heavy rain across parts of central and western Kentucky may also cause some high water.

A surge of very cold air comes in behind this system. A temperature drop of 40 degrees+ will be likely from Sunday morning into Sunday night. The Canadian Model continues to show more upper level energy diving in here by Monday into Tuesday. The latest run tries to close off an upper level low across the region…

CanadianThat setup could produce, at least, some flakes for Christmas Eve and Day.

I will have another update this evening. Take care.
